I have a 1986 HJ60 TLC diesel, and the f:censor: thing has stopped starting in cold weather. If I plug it in over night it starts but with a little work, and spraying some ether or anything else that burns so the it turns over. I have new glow plugs, all injectors are functioning just fine ,injecter lines are good ,fuel pump good. Can ther be an issue with pre heat timer?,my glow plug light stays on for about 4 secs,is there a glow plug relay control that may be not working?air intake sensor not working? I think my glow plugs are 24 volt because they were replaced at Toyota. Not sure what to do now,if anyone can give a hand send info my way. I want to keep this legend on the road:steer:and stop banging my:bang:
Thanks

Whats the compression readings? Any smoke when cranking? Using ether with glow plugs is a no-no.

Hey CC,

I have a 1981 BJ42 and I had the same sort of problems, started looking into everything you are, couldn't find anything. I put a meter on my batteries and they were reading ok 12.2V so I though I ruled that out. Had a friend who works for interstate and he suggested I try new batteries so he hooked me up with some fresh ones that I could return if that wasn't the problem. With the new batteries, turned over no problem, haven't had an issue since. The 3B in cold weather needs a lot of amps to crank over even with a heater on it. Have tried new batteries or had them tested?
