Mat had an idea:idea: , I ran with it.

I have started a group page on Flickr of the Coastal Cruisers Landcruiser club. It can be found at: http://www.flickr.com/groups/60257305@N00/ .

Here are the general guidelines :

A group page for members of the Coastal Cruisers Toyota Landcruiser club based in Vancouver, BC Canada to showcase their photos taken of club (and friends) vehicles, runs, events and members.

Viewing is open to the general public.

Joining and posting to the group is limited to Coastal Cruiser members, family (of), friends (of) and associates that wheel with us.

Please post what you feel to be good shots, we will be trying to keep the group from getting too saturated. This will provide a better viewing environment.

There is also a direct link to the club website.

This site will be able to be viewed by a worldwide audience, but photo posting will be limited to us.

Must be my charming personality :D . Craig, yet again thanks for setting it up, hopefully now this will encourage more people to share their stuff and post pics. So far I think there are 4-5 people with flickr sites. The cool thing about this is that it is very easy for others to access it and even easier for us to upload our pics.
And the irony of the guy with the Jeep starting a site for Cruisers is not lost.

Mat gets to hug the girls, cause he's so pretty.

Hey Bill, how come you haven't joined us on Flickr yet? You have a fare amount of pics.

You guys do know you can join for "free", right? We even have Steve from the Island onboard.

Well I haven't joined Flicker because I wanted to support Garry B's Cruiser website in Squamish. Trouble is, I had trouble getting into his photo website and got some kind of message that his computer was linked to mine and I got paranoid about that. I've got to talk to him about it and also get him to change the clubhouse address from Richmond. If I can't straighten out the problems with his site, then I'll consider Flicker.
The other aspect is, since Flicker is a commercial site, they probably sell info about us to other commercial users and I don't want more spam coming in.

I have not been getting anything from them, you can choose whether you want to receive news or not. As for the main CC site, it is a good idea to keep it going, I just have not had the time to upload pics, and honestly it is not that great for navigating and exploring the photos. There is camera info on there, but no descriptions of what even or who's in the pics. I will hopefully have a chance to send some pics to the main CC site, soon.

Hi Bill,

The Flickr site is spam free. It is owned and operated by Yahoo. The only time you get any kind of mail is when someone (viewing) would like to directly ask you about the photo and even then, if you don't have your email address in your profile, the message only goes to your Flickr page.

This is not to replace the Coastal Cruiser website. I like what Garry has done. There is a direct link from the CC Flickr page to the CC website. The CC website is good for show casing the club, but is limited to the options for viewing pictures. On Flickr, there is an automatic imprint of camera, time/date taken, date uploaded and by who. Photos can be viewed individually or by slide show. Another option (the one I like) is you can view them from thumbnail size (ie 5kb) to full size (3mg) and in between. People can also comment on your photo. I get anything from little old ladies with old memories to kids dreaming.

If you want a (any) club to succeed, you must constantly generate interest. That's what the Flickr site does. I get comments from around the world on my pics. Briton and the US on the Cruisers and a super nice lady in Turkey that thinks Mat is cute. I have over 20,000 views in just under a year. 10,000 in the past 4 months.

What I am saying is you can do both. People should still upload select photos to the CC site. I know for a fact that nobody wants me to upload 1000 pictures to the CC website. You also don't want me putting alot of my vehicle there.

Take a look at our site and then decide: http://flickr.com/groups/60257305@N00/

Ok, Ok, I'll give Flicker a try.
?A lady in Turkey thinks Mat is cute? Has she seen his big mean bumper?
How come he knows all the bar girls everywhere we go?

Yeah, the lady in Turkey is quite a stunner as well. :)

Other members already on the group: Mat, Marcin, Jeff, Phil, Steve (Island) and myself.

I agree, very nice travel pics Bill.

Can you please add that photo of the 60 (snow,Chinahead) to the CC Flickr site.

Thanks,
