cleaning filter housing

are there any solutions that you guys recommend to use to clean the filter housing? mine has dried up mud and what not in it and i dont know what would be the best thing to use. any imput would be appreaciated.
 
what about taking the hole assambaly off? wouldent it be safer to do it that way?

Definitely take the assembly off, it's easy. Simple green is the stuff, or berrymans carb cleaner for the tight spots. It takes time and patience to clean that thing but is very rewarding.
 
i'll second dishwasher. an old roommate and i rebuilt both of our motorcycle engines and put the pieces in the dishwasher...came out great. as long as you're not doing it on a regular basis, the city won't figure it out. :hillbilly:
