Not toooo bad, that is what I am looking for. I am kinda holding out a little bit longer to see if somebody has one laying around that doesn't know how much they are going on the market for.....

Aren't we all. ;)

I bought a Ford F350 High Pinion front 60 complete from hub to hub a few years back from a guy like that. I paid $500 and it had already been pulled, so no labor.

They are few and far between though.

So Jack,
To re cap, you said that the D60 would need to be re built. What actually NEEDS re building?
Are you talking about the re gear, longs, locker etc?
Right now, Ive been keeping an eye out for a rear primarily.
What SHOULD I be looking for with this in mind?
When the Vortec goes in, Im hearing that even the polys wont hold up with that power. However, I take that with a grain of salt because I donno how other people wheel. I tend to be rather delicate.

Keith i think youll be fine if you run Polly's there is no bullet proof axle unless you spend an excessive amount on it but thats just my 2 cents i think youll be fine with a d 60 or a 14 bolt corprate on the back of your rig as ive seen how you wheel i dont think youll have any issues but never know bud there are times to use that skinny pedal and times to take it slow and easy i preferr the later but will do what i have to when it gets down to it ROFL

Yeah, that is kinda the deal I am looking for. I have a line on a few, just gotta check on them this week.

As far as 60 front's go, most of them were in work trucks, so they may or may not have had the best care and were most likely heavily loaded for most of their life. Like most axles, all of the seals need replaced, maybe the wheel bearings (migh just need a re-pack) the rest is like other axles as well when it comes to re-gearing, same stuff there. The big difference and where you see most of the wear is with the Kingpins, the parts are usually worn out from the mileage/weight/lack of service type stuff.

As far as whether the Poly's will hold up, I think with your style you would be fine. I have seen more pinion breaks than axle breaks. Pretty scary either way.

Rears are easy/peasy. I would do either a 14bolt (with a minor shave) or a D70U. With a 60, you will need to have the spindles bored to accept 35/1.5" axles (read custom). The beauty of a 14 bolt is the gear setup is easy, they are bulletproof, cheap and a Detroit is cheap, disc brakes are cheap. Pretty much the perfect one ton rear axle. Super strong and cheap.

Here is some light reading: ;)

Good luck and let us know how the hunt goes. Also, if you find more than one (especially chevy front 60), you might want to let Keith know about it. (Stirring the pot:p)

Yep, pretty much the bomb proof way to go. My 14 bolt is getting treated to a complete chop, not just a shave!!! You RARELY hear folks breaking them....but it is possible. The disc brake set up is crazy cheap and you lose a ton of weight getting rid of the drums. The brackets are only like 40 bucks or so for a pair, and the rest can be found at the junkyard at a low price!

I will keep ya'll updated. I want to find one kinda quick now that I have a motor/trans for my buggy. Hopefully by mid August we will be laying the tube down, we are taking the measurments tomorrow!!!
