I have a 63 CJ with a 302 Ford in it (the one in my profile picture). I have tried everything from wetting agents, making sure the pump was good and turning the right way, rebuilt the heads (once I verified the head gaskets were not on backwards), wrapped the headers trying to reduce heat in the engine compartment and 2 different custom radiators with huge fans and full shrouds. I called a cooling specialist (not sure if I can tell whom or not in this thread) she told me to get rid of the 8274 in front of the radiator. I read a lot of material which all said it would not matter. Let me tell you after cutting the winch and mount off of the bumper the jeep ran cooler by 25 degrees or more. I shut it down at 230 and let it cool off. Now the hottest it gets is 220 which is too hot but I am realizing it is not a heat to water transfer. The radiator drops over 30 degrees, it is an air flow capacity issue. jeeps do not have a lot of room. The more air through the rad is getter to a point not too fast not to slow. Has to be a bit turbulent laminar flow does not transfer heat as well needs eddy currents circulating I'd guess. Anyway I have a portable winch now -- loved the 8274 looked really cool but for this jeep it sat too high.
Just wanted to let people know.
