Pretty much since our inception, we have given to some charity at Christmas time. For the last several years we have given to a charity in Bonham called Haven House. Well, Haven House closed this year. So that leaves us with the task of coming up with a new charity to support.

I'm open to suggestions here. I'll throw out a couple of ideas and you guys list out some suggestions. We probably need to decide by the next meeting.

One that is local to me is the Samaritan Inn. It's pretty much the same idea of Haven House, but it's on a larger scale. We won't be nearly as big of an impact as we were in Bonham.

I was also thinking maybe the Collin County Veterans Memorial, although it's a different cause than we usually support.

Please list out any ideas. Thanks.

In the past an organization I belonged to wanted to maximize the effect of our donation. We found an area where the $$ would have a large impact is a family with a child who has cancer. It is a terrible situation for the family and many times causes financial hardship as one parent will leave their job to care for the child.

I like that one. Is there an organization that coordinates this or do you find someone on your own?

Red Cross?

I, too, like the idea of helping the one family/one child. We usually raise, what, between $1500-$3000? That is a drop-in-the-bucket for many large charities...but would be nearly a miracle for the family of a child with cancer. This idea gets my vote...

i also like the one child/ one family thing. but, it may not be substantial enough, whereas given to an orginization that redistributes donations, may have a larger impact. just need to consider the best way to help, i think.

We would speak with admin or clergy at the children's hospitals to develop a short list. From that point, basically decide to which family the $$ would have the greatest impact. The Family's were always suprised and deeply appreciative. A couple of thousand dollars is HUGE to a family in this position. If we go this way, I will head up getting the short list from local Hospitals.
