Chipped hood on gx470 starting to rust, need to fix! But how? (1 Viewer)

I got a lot of chips on my Savanah Gold gx hood, and it's starting to rust, so want to get this taken care of.
I figure it would be near $1000 to get done at a proper body shop, does that sound right?

That seems like too much to spend on this aging truck imo. So what are my DIY options? Would just lightly sanding the rust off the chips and dabbing in touch up paint look horrible?

You're looking at removing the clearcoat as well and the paint and rust, so repainting has to include reapplying the clearcoat, but yes, it's doable.

@SFROMAN has a recent tutorial. It's worth reading through three pages of posts to see what can be done, if you put your mind to it.
