hows this sound, me and my buddy might buy a chevy 4x4 pickup. he'll take the axles, and i'll take the motor, tranny and tcase (its a 350 auto) and put it in my 76 fj40 then find a toyota mini truck rear axle and bolt that in the back. i may flip the rear springs for more room. will i have front drive shaft clearance problems?. as for the mini axle what year would be the closest width, 85 and older or 86 newer? what about strength?

also is a mini front diff on the drivers side?

slow down, what transfer?

if a 203 then just use it as a doubler and run stock cruiser tcase and axles.

you could run cruiser axles, especially the front, and get a center housing made for the rear.

NO you shouldnt, on the front driveshaft, unless you clock it.

or if tcase is 205, combine it with a np200 and make the rear output offset.

SA mini front is pass drop

mini axles are considered to be weaker the cruiser axles, so they say. birfs are better then the early cruisers.

Hilux has a 8" Diameter Crown Wheel, compared to the 8.75" of a Landcruiser. Also the Hilux rear Axle is a Semi Floater, where as most Landcruiser have a Full Floater.
The Advantage of Hilux Axles is the Diff Clearence. :bounce:

You're gonna have a very short rear driveline in a '40.

mini rear - 55"
IFS mini rear = 58" (or so)
Taco rear = 60"

LC rear = 55"

Jonathan, most cruiser axles inthe states are SF.
Basically you would be losing the ring gear strength..

I do not reccomend a doubler with stock LC or mini axles. They break too easily. If yo are going to go to tall the extent of swaping in the chevy drivetrain at least upgrade the rear axle to a 9", D60 (35 spline), 14 bolt or Eaton..

i'd be running 35s, no lockers and the 2.5" lift i have already. i wouldn't consider a doubler or a custom axle as it sounds pricey and hard to do. i am willing to flip the rear springs for more drive shaft length. as for the mini axle, a wheelin buddy of mine has a 83 mini with a 350 on nitrous th350 to stock tcase and axles rolling on 35" boggers and he beats on that thing way more than i do. as for the 4x4ing i do,i basically just putter around old mining roads and do snow runs in the spring. not much mud or rocks.
