hi ive got two nasty dents on both the drivers side front fender and drivers side door of my 89 fj62 two tone. not sure what the PO did to make these. however im not a body knocker and basiclly only have limited tools to work with as well as money(meaning id really rather not take it to a body shop), my question is this, is this something that can be reparied? or do i have to pull fender and door off and get one at a junk yard( although tempting, but i also hate the look of multi colored cruisers...and cant afford a new paint job right now)? any information would be appreciated

Hey, I see you made it over here quickly enough. Welcome.
Here's a few more of my pesos on the subject:
I see that fix taking a skilled body guy to match what looks otherwise like a pristine body. I say this because I see 3 body lines that have been dinked. (Fender lip, and the two body lines in the fender and door) These are a bitch to just 'knock out' without experience. Doable for sure, but it takes trial and error for us regular guys. Also, expect some portion of the paint to flake in areas upon popping out a large section (where the metal is stretched most). FWIW, guys have luck placing a deflated football behind big uniform dents and using expansion from inflation to push it out some. This really only works if there's an inside panel to push against, obviously.
Good luck with whatever approach you take.

You can repair most anything with enough time and patience. Bondo, a dent puller, and time, along with lots of sandpaper are your friend. That said, I wouldn't repair either of those. More effort than it's worth. You need a door and a fender. Cheapest and easiest fix by far.

I agree w. Texx. Arizona should be as good a place as any to find clean (rust free) body parts. The fender is very easy to replace. Pretty much self explanatory. Unbolt all, disconnect lamps, remove. assembly reverse of removal.

Door similarly easy with a bit of trial and error getting the closure/hinge alignments right. Plus a few more wires on a 62 with electric what-have-yous in there. Keep all your interior panels and maybe your window regulator/motor until you can test the junkyard parts for comparison.

Who knows, maybe you even find another two tone donor and skip the body work?

Even if not, taking a few parts to shoot at a bodyshop, when you have the time to pull all the trim and glass and intereior stuff will give you a MUCH better job than all but the most thorough paint jobs, and for not too much cash. It doesn't look like your truck needs paintwork anywhere else... focus your efforts!

Or you could just back into/run over a few more things and go for a more uniform look with what you got going...

Good luck! Cool 62!

You MIGHT be able to pull the door panel and pop some of that dent out by hand (the crease would be a bitch) however not so on the fender, just replace the sucker.

IH8bondo, it creates more rust than its worth

Hard work here with the creases.Figure new parts somewhere down the line when you have the money. Mike

thanks tom yeah junk yard pickins are slim here in AZ, however i think im jusr gonna have to replace them both i did spot a 88LC at a pick n part but its a two tone blue and grey but i may still pull the fender off and leave my dents as they are and once i have the time and money ill see about sanding and repainted

then againe with all that az pinstriping we get here i may not have to do any paint removal at all lol
