I feel like I should open up a shop that works on older toyotas. I can't believe you guys are getting turnd away from shops because of age of vehicle. I love working on the older stuff. It's always been a dream of mine to have my own shop

Yeah...I got the same response from a local "Toyota/Lexus specialist" shop. The older vehicles usually come with underlying issues so a shop's ability to accurately determine hours, time, costs, parts, etc is too complicated. They operate like any other major auto dealer service shop in order to maintain the numbers. Being profitable means swapping parts off the shelf in less time than is charged. It's the way of the world and it's a damn shame.

I understand where they’re coming from but I wish they would just add a disclaimer to the work that it may take longer than normal and since it’s an older vehicle, repair costs may fluctuate by X% and it can’t be warrantied. I’d still use a good shop that I trusted to do the best they could.

McInrosh Imports in Mt. Pleasant will still work on older stuff. He's a Toyota/Land Cruiser guy too.
Other than that, Marshall (Trolllholes Cruisers) is the only Land Cruiser shop I know.
I was a mechanic for years, I do all my own stuff.
Not really wanting to do work for profit, though.

I've decided to go back to my roots and start working on cars again. Mostly Land Cruisers, but until I get enough work, I'll work on anything 1990 or older.
I'm in Summerton now, about an hour north of Charleston.
Not looking to do restorations, mainly maintenance and some custom fab work.
