Just wondering, I've got a Dana 44 front with attached disk brakes and Dana 44 Rear w/ locker both from a Scout II. Anybody think this is a good swap for the stock FJ40 ones. Any disadvantages?? 350 engine, T350 tranny, etc. I know I get rid of the birfeilds but I think that i'd have to get a different transfer case since the Fj one is offset, Could use some PRO advise, Thanks BT

Let's see, yer goin to smaller axles all around, Prolly geard higher than the 4.11's yer cruiser has. You get to break the u-joint an possibly wipe out both the inner an outer axle.
Plus yer gonna havta fab stuff to make it werk... Plenty of fj60's an mini truck frunt axles roud fer disc brake convertin. Can be dun in 1 weekend easy.. Lunch box lockers are under $300 nu. Even the jeep guys are stepin up ta 60's an 14 bolts.
So ther ya are, Don P.

Well I guess I thought I was going better, guess Im not changing!!!! Thanks for your input. Anybody wanna buy some Scout axles??

I'm not sure D44's are any better. With Longfield's inners, outers and hub gears, Aisin hubs and Poly Performance chromo rears about any Toy axle can be build as well or better then a built Dana IMHO. If ya wanna go wider get some FJ60 axles front and rear and some shallower off-set wheels.

I think you'll find more "keep it Toyota" then "small block and Danas" support in here.

It all boils down to $$$. If you have more $$$ than ________ (insert comment) go with 60's or maybe Unimog 406 axles (portals are just cool:grinpimp:).

If you're like the rest of us the axle/birf swap Don mentioned will get you just about anywhere you really need or should go.

As far as the engine I think it depends on how much time you'll be on the highway and how HD the rest of your rig is. Maybe a FI 3FE would be a cool swap and maintain the Toyota brand. I myself like the Ramjet 350 or a Cummins 4BT out of the Frito/Lay trucks (350 bellhousing). There are so many options with engines it depends on your wallet.

Thanks guys!!!!
