Well I started this post. Got all the good advise and now have my Cobra 75 mounted, aerial in, neat and clean. SWR's are a little high. Continuity check on coax good. I think its the closeness of the racks on top. Any advise.

Roof rack may affect range (if the antenna doesn't extend above it a ways) but should not affect SWR. Much more likely that your antenna is sensitive to the lack of ground plane at that location. See if you cam borrow someone else's antenna and see if it makes a difference in SWR.
