Getting ready to put a CB in my 07. I know I need the Bandi Mount on the back door hinge and thats about all the knowledge I have. One guy told me I should use the Cobra 75 and a remote box...what ever that is???
Looking for some advice, hints, recommendations etc etc.

e-mail me, or post to this thread.

Thanks

You can get a "package" from Walcott.com that will include all you need for a good CB.

Complete Toyota FJ Cruiser CB Radio System "Big Bill Combo" - Electronics Superstore www.WalcottCB.com

Yes, the Cobra 75 WXST has a nice feature in that the "guts" of the CB can be located in the console while the handset can be detached and stored when not in use. And, if you want to have a CB in a second car, all you have to do is by the remote box ($25), install it in the second vehicle (with an antenna), bring the handset and you have a CB in both vehicles.

I've been using this set up for a few years and been very happy with it...

I like my Cobra 75 as well; a good trail radio and not in the way when you don't need it. The controls are a little small if you have big hands, but for as little as I use it that does not bother me.

When should we start pushing him toward amateur radio licensing and getting a HAM radio also...:hhmm:

I just installed a Cobra 18 WX ST II to the headliner, Install was a bit of a pain considering I had to drop the headliner down and glue some 2x4 to the roof so I had something to screw in to but honestly I think its the best place to mount a CB (full size) in an FJ, it is up and out of the way, and looks like a nice Custom install, I ran the K40 antenna cable between the headliner and roof then out to the Bandi mount and a 4ft wilson.... I LOVE IT!!

Yeah, it would be doing him a favor in the long run for sure Jerry.

That's where and how I mounted my Ham radio.

Another option is the Midland 75-822. It's mostly marketed as a portable handheld radio, but can easily be hard-wired to the FJ just like the Cobra. When you need, you can put the portable antenna back in to use outside the vehicle for spotting if necessary. I wired mine in last night. When the radio is put away, you have no idea there's a coax cable hiding in a dummy 12v outlet. Whatever model you choose, make sure you remove enough paint the bandi mount and the door hinge... a good ground is key for the cb.

I've got the Midland 75-822 as well and enjoy its dual mode capability. Keep the battery pack and 10 inch antenna in the glove box and the other is hardwired into my rig. When I need to use it outside the truck I simply detach the 12v power cord and mate it to the DC battery pack, twist on the antenna and start walking.

X2 on the Headliner Mount. Up and out of the way, looks like where the radio is supposed to be mounted. A coupe of good write ups on the web on how to do it yourself.

Get your Ham Radio Ticket.
Bigger selection of radio gear and lots of different mounting options.

In the long run if you do not you will wish you had..;)

Hello to all
Has anyone pics of his CB radio mount? (Not the Cobra75)
Has anyone tried an Overhead Installation? I still have an never used Overhead Console from my 80 series. Does such a Console fit with a few modifications?

I'm not dILzNAK and don't play him on TV, but here's a link to photos and details of my overhead install:

Dual radio (Ham and CB) install - Toyota FJ Cruiser Forum

Thats Funny Right there!! But Good info on the install, I think Between Your post (1911) and a few other's I was able to do my install pretty easy!!

As for the pix My Comp went down and When I get it back up and running I will post them

Thanks 1911
The Overhead installation seems pretty good. I still have a console for an overhead installation which I never installed in my HDJ80 because I changed the entire roof for a sleeping roof.

Maybe that console will fit with a few modifications in the FJ.

Pics from other users, not only overhead, are welcome ;)
