Caster Correction for a 2.5" Lift

Your welds are too cold and/or you were moving the wire too fast. Grind them down and have someone redo them because running gear is not where you should be learning how to weld.
Thanks for the feedback. It's a Lincoln 125 and it was on the highest setting for heat. I think I had the wire feed set too high and I was in a hurry.

Wire feed was probably fine... If you had the heat cranked, then you were just moving the arc too fast. Move the arc in a circular pattern as you move down the seam you're welding. Your bead should look like this:

Use your ears- correct heat and wire feed settings will sound like bacon frying. If the arc intermittently goes out, or you feel the gun being pushed away from your work, your wire speed is either too slow or too fast respectively.

Hit up a metal shop and ask for scraps to practice on. Maybe even offer to bring over a six pack after work if they are willing to show you some basics. MIG welding isn't hard, but it's not intuitive.

Saw these online already and got excited! The description seemed the same so i was wondering if the install was in fact just like the others you offer?

Thank you for bringing these to market @NLXTACY !

Well @landtank did all the work. I just made sure there was a market and a place to buy them :P

These are actually easier than the 4" plates. Cutting wheel/grinder to make some notches, weld front and rear (to keep plates from shifting during use), then bolt together. Still takes time but not as bad.

I had been holding out for these but got impatient and ordered drop brackets from MAF. My only real concern is that these require welding in place and I have every intention of installing a bigger lift at some point...

Should be welded to prevent any type of shifting while in use. The design does allow it to be reversible.

Thank you very much to @landtank also then.

I'm glad to see these dont require the use of a right angle drill, the passenger side is a little cramped!

after 10 or so installs it get routine. But at 4" lift and all the geometry corrections needed it really is the easiest way I could come up with using a plate solution.

@FJP971 What is your suspension setup specifically, like what springs? Winch, bumper etc, or no? What is your hub to flare measurement?

I have a TJM 50mm lift, but really it measures out to 3+" due to lack of extra weight. Just trying to decide between installing my Slee plates (already have them sitting in the garage, and a dc shaft), or buying these new plates.

Please and thank you!

OME 851 in the front, OME 863 in the rear. Stock bumper up front and no winch. KISS drawers in back, custom tube bumper with dual swingouts that carry 5 gal of fuel, full size spare, propane tank, and Smittybuilt jack. Lost my hub measurements. Will need to remeasure. I'm really happy with the new plates. Hope that helps.
