Hi, I have a 1982 FJ60 with some sort of 3" lift that appears to be 20 years old and has absolutely no flex.

I know Ford Ranger and Bronco II guys have figured out that you can get 3" of lift from 63" chevy springs. I was wonder if this work on something as heavy as an FJ60 and combined with a spring over would get me enough lift and flex for 33" Baja Claws and maybe a future upgrade to 35's.

I can't afford an Old Man Emu lift and even the Sky Jacker 4" kit is out of reach. specially with a planned V8 swap.

second question.

has anybody used a ranger gear splitter for their V8 swap? how does it hold up? Does the Stock 4spd and T-case hold up to a 350?

Welcome to mud!

You definitely don't need a spring over to fit 33" tires. Some even run them on stock suspension. I have heard of using chevy springs on a FJ60 but have yet to meet someone who has done it.

right now I have the 33's on it. and 35's will fit, but I have absolutely no flex, lift tech 20 years ago is not what it is now.

thanks for the welcome. you ever hear of anybody running a GM14 bolt in the back?

14 bolt will most likely require a different Tcase (centered rear output)

if you look at the OME springs they really are affordable if all you want is the springs ($111 per)

yeah, I am debating on using the stock 4 spd and T-case with a ranger gear splitter against using my complete GM drive train. I just gutted a 91 3/4 ton Suburban so I have the parts needed for that except a transmission, it died towing a trailer that was too heavy with not enough cooling. either way I am looking at $1600 for either a gear splitter/adapter or a remanned 4L80e for a 350. not sure which way I want to go but I like the sound of 8 lug and bigger 3/4 ton brakes.

I thought a 91 burban was ifs in the front..

1500 vs. 2500 ?

91 GMC V2500, last year of the straight axle and leafs in the front. I would have kept it but my wife talked me into a mini van so I no longer need the room and its too long to wheel ........ I would rather have a 1 ton diesel for towing and let the Suburban live on in the Cruiser.

I have a set of waggy rear springs that I shortened to be more of a 60 length.

might be an option..

I might take you up on that. I don't suppose you got another set of axles do you? looking to have 2 sets of axles....... 1 set with 3.73 for 265/75/16 for daily driving and a set with 4.88's for 35" for off road adventures.

If I do a soa then swapping axles back and forth should take little time, sepcially if all axles have disc brakes.
