Posting to see if anyone with experience installing a camshaft would want to help.

I have a 78 fj40 with a new small block 350. The cam in it now is to big.
I will be taking it out and installing a new one.

I could pay $200 and a case of beer for some help and an extra pair of hands
with experience doing this. I live in vegas, 95 and durango area.

Thanks. Cost of gas...deal

Have you done this before?

I was thinking december the 19th? I teach high school so that will be my first day off.
Plus it will give me time to tear off the front clip, radiator, timing cover, intake and valve covers.

I have not done a cam but I have reset timing while instaling a timing chain and adjusted lifters I have owned many different chevys and they are real easy. Just got the motor to tdc and there wont be any problems. I belive that is when I go up to Utah though so I am not sure if that date will work. I will check and get back. You could post a pic of your rig as well for fun

cam removal/install

that's an easy job, you'll have to loosen the rockers and pull the push rods and lifters out. then the cam will slide right out. it's super easy. TDC (top dead center) is the key here for efficiency.

Thanks, let me know if you will be here. If not, no big deal.

my rig....

I just switched back to the stock steel wheels and 33x10.5 bfg's. So need to take new pics.
Dropped in a fresh 350 but the cam in it is not exactly right for this type of vehicle.
4" lift, 4 wheel disc, line lock, sm465, stock xfer case, and power steering.

got it done but now I think the starter is bad. it ran fine to the smog shop, gas pump and dmv. Had to tow it home. The starter gear would mesh with the flywheel and get stuck....click click click click. I would have to climb under truck, turn the flywheel for the starter gear to release. Try again and same thing.

I just put in a new battery too. Could that cause it? I lost.
