I live in Charleston SC and would love to find a place to camp in the area with maybe some mild trails I could take the LX on with the wife. Any suggestions? Maybe a spot to fly fish and camp along a creek?

Talk to @jvalex she lives in the are. Can most likely point you in the direction of some trails.

I've camped a bunch in the area but mostly at group camps so I'm not much help there. I do know there are quite a few cool forest roads out there thT @GarnerFJ40 and I explored. He may still have the coordinates.

I posted a list of closures from the ranger districts a while back, I'll try to dig that back up. Not much has reopened. You're better off wandering towards TN right now, sadly. But I'll look at camp sites and see what's open near DuPont.

Perfect timing.

Post up the info in this thread please. The old lady and I will be out in that area in a few weeks and would like to have the info also. Our plan is to camp in the area, relax and maybe check out some waterfalls. Most likely stay where we usually stay when I have been on the hurricane creek runs but not planning on running the actual hurricane creek section.
Any brewery or restaurants you recommend in Asheville or in the area that are open would be greatly appreciated also.
Sorry to hijack

Something to know as far as service goes - Buncombe Co is mandatory mask wearing. So you'll walk in, put on your mask, order, take it off to eat or drink at table, put it on when moving about again.

No this is not a joke. Yes, some folks are more relaxed on it, but for the most part the signage is everywhere.

Burning Blush is a great brewery that opened up recently in Mills River, close to Brevard / DuPont. If you're going into town (Biltmore is open!) Hillman Brewing is nearby there. You can throw a rock downtown and hit awesome eats. I will ask in service industry group who all is open to seating, though.

@jvalex Have you tried much of the beer from DSOLVR yet?

We were in Asheville the first weekend of re-opening (two weekends ago?) - pretty weird - few out, town was quiet. We stayed overnight in a hotel downtown. Just roamed around town.

Some people being a-holes about wearing masks - giving grief.

We drove out by Sylva and down through WCU and then hiked up to Rainbow Falls and went home. Trail was PACKED - people getting out vs going bars/movies, etc :)

Haven't tried them at all!

Yeah, it's slowly picking back up - but not really. Traffic is at least pleasant for once. I've spent most of my time home and outside - I go to the grocery store / gas station / pharmacy once a week, stop by my buddy's shop, and that's it. I have heard people are being rude about folks not wearing a mask - the sign of a true Karen, thinking you can police other people. Ha!

I was kinda thinking it was the Karen's refusing to wear a mask . .I'm new to these names though :)

Sorry, @gamecock2009 ! :)

We liked this place near Brevard and it has opened up. Close to lots of stuff and fun.

Mount Pisgah Campground is still closed :(

I was in Brevard area for the past week. So if you are going to camp in Pisgah you are going to have to do something really remote. Davidson River Campground is all booked up and as of right now you cannot camp within 1000 ft of any road, which is complete BS. Even the remote sites that are not near anyone at all are closed off. I assume they're doing this to limit the amount of people in Pisgah, but yet sliding rock was packed beyond belief like any other summer day. We adapted and made do, but it does take some flexibility. Found some new trials that I never tried before. One was a little interesting because it was down pouring when we were on it and it was pretty steep with a lot of loose rocks. We got back to Raleigh late last night and I already want to go back.

Oh as far as masks no one at all was wearing any in Brevard other than cashiers in stores. Out of the hundreds if not thousands of people we saw at sliding rock (my two boys are obsessed with it) over the week I maybe 4-5 masks.

Yeah only Buncombe Co has any sort of requirement. Even the townships on the edge of Buncombe have opted out.
