Saturday May 16 Time and exact Launch site TBD

We have a bunch of kayakers and canoers in the club, and at some point we have all talked about a large float somewhere and sometime. This is it. Stephen (FJ40z) has proposed a section(s) of the Dan and/or Mayo Rivers close to Madison or Mayodan, NC. This area is convenient to the Triad and Triangle members, but still open to everyone in the group!

This does coincide with a Uwharrie workday, but due to Stephen's schedule, the Relic Run, letting the water warm up a little, Memorial Day, and the eventual NC summer heat, we decided we needed to get this on the books soon. Not everyone is a paddler, so I don't think we'll cut into the workday that much.

Please post up if you'd be interested in going, as we're trying to gauge if it will be a mid-morning trip with a late lunch, or more of a lunch start and dinner later. Food options could be either bring something for the end of the paddle or out somewhere.

@GarnerFJ40 You caught my attention. Let me see how the next 3.5 weeks plays out. If able to come, it would be me & lil Mushie.

Definitely interested. I have an action-packed May but I might be able to do it. If so, my crew would be anywhere between 1-4 people. Of those are 2 adults & 2 kids, all of which have their own Kayak.

Put down 2 more that are very interested in going. The last time I floated down a river was the New River in a canoe abut 1982. Sounds like a terrific trip and adventure.

The Uwharrie River is running pretty good the last few weeks. For those interested the put in is at Lowe Water Bridge (easy to googlemap) and out is at the 109 Bridge.

Seems like I’ve read somewhere that you can also take out at morrow mountain, off the pee dee. This would be kind of cool, maybe another potential trip.

This place too if you are looking for more still water

Falls Reservoir Boat Launch
Albemarle, NC 28001

Uwharrie is flowing, and with some of the military training going on this month it can get “exiting “ as you float by..

Interested. I need recommendations from the paddler experts on what kind of kayak to buy. Looking for all purpose with rod holders and available on craigslist. Will use at Oriental and in the sound as well. Thank you for your input.

I like my wilderness systems tarpon 12. Sit on top - with a nice seat that keeps you above the wet spot. Paid about $800 on Craigslist

My fiance and I have a 12ft Wilderness systems tarpon and a 14ft WS tarpon and love them! Both were c-list finds. $600 for the 12ft like new and $700 for the 14ft in good shape. Very stable sit on top kayaks with options for rod mounts or other accessories.

We may both be in for this event also. Tentatively.

Thank you. Looking for one and plan to attend.

@uzj100
I got a vibe sea-ghost 110, no expert but I will say that it was hard keeping up with Jason in that longer kayak. If I could go back I would opt for the 130 at 13’. I like the sea ghost because it’s got a rudder, already got a port if you wanna add a fish finder and railed for mounts.

Before I decided on the Vibe though I looked at the ascend kayaks at bass pro read a lot of good thing about them and then being pretty stable as a good all around. Lots on Craigslist as well

Also for everyone going make sure you have a spare set of keys somewhere safe and your keys tied to you somewhere..... not a fun lesson to learn.
