that second low opening has turned me off of the AFE product, i wheel, and i cross water. i'm still waiting for a snorkel to come out, i heard ARB was making one, any word on this? ideally a TRD intake piped to a Snorkel would be great for me.

Just got off the phone with ARB. They said first shipment is expected to leave in early Sept. with it arriving in the states in October. Toooooooo Loooooong...:crybaby:

Toyota probably sends you coupons for their "Parts Botique" - about every 2 monthe I get 1 for 20% off any purchase. That reduced the $400 ticket for the TRD CAI to $320 - best price around. I installed mine in about 45 minutes, and the fit was easy except for the box was not square relative to the top access panel - I had to force it to seat using the install screws (its going back to the stealer). The result combined with a Magnaflow muffler was significant in throttle response and mpg increase. My highway mileage went from a high of mid 16's to 20.

I got the coupon, and since they have my TLCA membership number in there system I got another 15% off. It says TRD on it, so I am not worried about warranty issues.

There are only Three CAI's for the FJC. STOCK (Yes, its a CAI, just highly restrictive), TRD/AFE, and Volant.

Volant is directly compatible with a their snorkel.

The Safari Snorkel is designed to be used with Stock intake.

But it is super easy to mate the snorkel up with the TRD/AFE CAI.

Performance gain is definately noticeable.. especially mileage if i can keep my heavy ass foot off the pedal.

correct...

also some i dont think understand what a CAI really is compared to snorkel and how it is different or not from what is oem on FJ...LOL

no reason a snorkel and cai cannot work together...it is all about the routing of the intake and whether they marry up for water tight seal.

I prefer Volant CAI and if they have a snorkel and I ever want one that is the direction I will go. For now my oem CAI that came on the vehicle with a better air filter is good enough for offroad and daily driver....I will put that extra $400 into new UCAs or a winch instead.

Snorkel isn't going to give you performance like a CAI. Awhile ago I used to know exactly why, but I can't remember. >.>

only reason I can think of is reduced airflow due to friction of longer inlet tube...but if mouth and inlet was larger to account for longer travel....it could work. I am sure if AFE or Volant have worked it out then it works as advertised as both are pretty good about delivering what they promise.
