Bumps on my 78’s rear tub/fenders?

After spending a good amount of time stressing the suspension issue - I've decided to go ahead and replace everything with an OME complete kit. Ordered the "light" kit from Cruiser Outfitters and Kurt says everything should arrive on Friday.

Will be great to pull all that old PO miss-matched stuff off. I put together a high tech height gage to check out before/after. Any advice, things to watch for, etc. appreciated - never done this before.

Also want to pick up 5 tires. What can I do on tires (conservative) for around $1k that will work well and still look good with this OME lift? Thinking BFG, 31x10.50R15, Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 Tire (or maybe All-Terrain) - appropriate? Mud-Terrain seems extreme for around town but the reality is the truck probably won't be driven that much - so it doesn't really need to be too practical.

If all works out I may have my Epoxy-Primer-spotted truck on the road this summer.

If they r tall enough then your good. 31's will b a bit too small me thinks.

I think 9.50's are hard to find, if not impossible! I really liked my 33X10.50's.

With the new lift and if you go with 33's you should make sure your bump stops are such that you don't get into all that nice sheet metal work you've done. ;) It would only be a problem in the front (might rub the inner fender well on the rear at full flex, but not enough to hurt anything except maybe rub some paint off), and if you leave the axles as they are (no spring 180) you might not even have an issue at all, even in the front.

There is a picture in the daily driven rigs of a mustard 40 with OME lift and I think 9.50's... Can't remember his screen name though... It's not hard to miss however, it's probably one of the cleanest rigs on here...

Glad to hear she might be driving this summer!

The OME shackles are very well engineered, but were too short for my application. If you find the need like I did to lengthen the shackles, especially the rears, then you might take the approach I did. I machined longer side plates that take the greasable OME spring pins. My plates are a bit thicker steel than the OME plates, so I have to keep an eye on the locking nuts that will work loose.

I had the 2.5" OMEs, but wanted more lift, and went to the 4" HFS. YMMV

TEQ has that clean mustard 40 with OME lift ("Uglina")

Marks Offroad sells "ABS" for your Land Cruiser that helps with the bump stop issue.

I'm assuming the original stock lug nuts on my 1978 40 must have been more like these (photo of my old 80 truck - just sold BTW)? The PO nuts I have are acorn-closed style and must be after-market?

Free axle - waiting for UPS. This seems to work - small stands in front, larger stands on frame and the jack keeping the diff from rotating down.

Eight? Amateurs!

Actually, I think I have eight as well. What I need is taller ones without the 50 ton rating.

You can build them yourself, maybe even sell them.:hhmm:

Waaaay ahead of you!

Well, what I mean is when I actually get to the point of needing them I plan to make some and if they are cool enough I'd consider selling them if liability wasn't an issue.

Your right really I have 16 ... But 12 are 1 to 2ft smallies and have 4 at dads and 4 at the Inlaws along with a jack at each :D. I keep a small set and a 2to3 ft high set here ;)

When you sell them to Europe it is a lot easyer regarding the liability. They expect customers to have common sence over here.:grinpimp:

iphone photo - please excuse the quality.

Trying to work that 1st spring into place. I thought it was hard to remove the old stuff and easier to install the new - not my experience so far . . . :)

I the plus (+) always goes on the driver's side? Each front spring has a plus. For the rear springs I have a plus and a minus.

The longer end of the spring (distance to center pin) is always on the shackle - the short end goes to the static pin?

The bushings don't get grease on the OD - press fit area?

I expected those weird "triangle-type" shackles from OME - instead I got something more simple looking (which I like)? Have they changed the design?
