I have a handful on my used-to-be new 2016 with the Blizzard White. Pretty superficial. But before i go after trying to buff them out is there anything I should avoid? Can I trust a detailer to not mess up the paint? (I expect I'll have more so I'll need to learn how to do this.) Buffing I understand. I'm just not sure about this paint/finish on my 2016.

Careful Dan, this could be a rabbit hole that will convert your thinking from 'car washes' to 'paint care' ;)

If you want to try yourself, I just did a detail recently with the intent of removing scratches from Ouray and other trail runs - summary here. Many others on MUD that have more detailing experience than I (for which I give any credit for any success I have) so look around, as well as other sites like Autopia Car Care Products - Car Detailing Supplies, Car Wax, Car Polishers, Auto Detailing

I'd imagine a true detailing pro will go way beyond what I, as an amateur, can do with regards to paint hardness, color matching (if necessary), etc... and eliminate all scratches whereas I only got about 80-90% of where I wanted to be. The delta is related to my inexperience and my avoidance of very abrasive compounds and aggressive cutting pads (and perhaps a little impatience as this can be a multi-day project).

But for my amateur work, I'm very pleased with the results. My 6 yrs old LC looks pretty darn good for her age!

Are the pinstripes painted on?

Ha ha!

Kevin, thanks for the thoughts on a DIY approach. I think I'll start by taking it to a reputable detailer. Maybe even my Toyota dealer. That is what I did with my LR4 and they were able to get them out every time. But the bronze color I had didn't have little flecks of color in it or whatever is in this Blizzard White.

Sorry for not being clear. Yep. For those of us who drive off road - especially in areas with narrow trails and lots of foliage/bushes - we inevitably get scratches from branches that stick out into the trail. Having pin stripes is for of like a rite of passage or minor battle scars for doing off road. (Minor because they are not "body damage" like when I ripped the bumper of my LR4 when it caught on a rock on a difficult trail. These scratches are almost inevitable when driving narrow back roads.

But, yes, I understand that some vehicles come with painted pinstripes. I had them on a Lexus SUV I had about 8 years ago. Maybe I should just paint over the scratches and pretend they are painted pinstripes. ;-)
