Things are wrapping up getting my father’s (90) 1994 FZJ-80 ready to hand down to my daughter. By background, I would say this car had all routine service done on time (OCI 5k), plus what I would call prompt “break-fix” work. There was little attention paid to preventative maintenance over the life of the car. It has 235k mostly highway miles. But the last 5 years have been low use seeing only 25k miles since 2015. Probably half that was my Denver based daughter taking it on trips to the New River Gorge, WV or Red River Gorge, KY. It will serve as a 3rd car in Denver for weekend climbing adventures.

We have 90%+ of the service records since new. Recent repairs include AC (all but evaporator), general tune-up (plugs, dist cap and wires), starter and front oil seals. The suspension got an overhaul in 2014 by Iron Pig in Fredericksburg, VA. The last three repair visits were for coolant leaks – I finally took the signal.

I am competent with an Audi A6 and a Lexus ES 330 where I have done head gaskets. I have nowhere near the skill or experience represented on this site.

My father and I are grateful to all who assisted from the IH8MUD community. Assuming we go through with the interior replacement we will have put $11-12k into the car and never would have been able to pay shop fees on top. We did acquire a few tools and make one for the harmonic balancer. These go with the car.

Yet to be done are the front pads and hubs and replacing the front pax side lower body mount/isolator. I have the part but have yet to free the lower nut.

After an inspection at body shop, there is one troubling area of rust on the inner fender panel pax side at the forward mount of the air cleaner. I have removed all the loose material and for the moment treated it with Surface Shield. We will get a view from Land Cruiser Heaven on what else to do when they do the leather work.

I am thinking of Nuxodol for the underside.
