What are three or four important tips for a newb meat smoker?

I have been boning up (har, har) on smoker sites and am learning, but would like to have a few pointers my first time up so I don't have an 'epic' my first time.

Any thoughts???

it helps if it's really dry, otherwise it's pretty difficult to light...
And for ground meat, a pipe is less messy...

:D

electric or charcol? what kind of meat do you want to smoke?

I've used an electric smoker to make jerkey: didn't notice a difference in flavor between soaking the wood chips or just popping 'em in. My method was to marinate the meat, or apply rub seasoning & let sit in a small amount of water for an hour or two, then place in the smoker. Add more wood chips after an hour, leave meat in the smoker for about 4 hr, and if still 'greasy' I'd finish the jerkey in the stove for an hour or 2 at 250.

hth.

you also might try crossposting in the hunting & fishing section, if you want tips insteada quips.

My meat smoker has to have big pouty lips, if she has big bewbs that helps too!!!

Figured I'd leave that for Liam. I tend to keep my jokes hetero.
