Getting ready to do my dual cases, rotate the rear axle and redo the brake lines on the 4Runner. Even with the LSPV cranked as far as possible simulating a heavy load it feels like the rear brakes are barely engaging. I need to get this reconciled. I've read elsewhere this is an issue.

Anyone have experience using the Summit valve?

My year 4Runner has the brake lines and the power steering lines share some kinda reservoir for ABS, which is long gone on this rig. Next time I yank the engine I'll pull this stuff out and replumb both, but for now I don't want to get into it. So, suggestions on location? Mount it close to a frame rail in an easy location to mount and cut and flare the lines? How about a supplier of brake fittings for the 1/8 NPT to metric dbl flare fittings and metric couplings?
 
I was looking at this one also. Summit has some 1/8" NPT male to 3/8" inverted flare female fittings. I think it may be pretty hard to find 1/8" NPT to 10MM dbl flare. You may just have to change the brake line connections at the valve.

i have the summit valve @ almost the full 57% reduction, works flawlessly


i work at advance auto and we have all those fittings, so go visit one (just ask there not out front)

I'll try NAPA out here...I've never seen an Advance Auto in Norcal.

Bandy- where did you cut yours in? Did you just put it in place of the OEM LSPV or ?
 
The valve comes with adaptors to flare fittings.. that's what you see in the photo. Not saying it's right, but the metric threads fit right in and tighten tight.. no leaks in years.

We bypassed the LSPV in a friend's Tacoma when we did his rear discs, and with no other changes other than bypassing the valve and adding the proportioning valve, it works great.

Do you recall how you routed the lines? My runner has ABS as I imagine your buddy's Taco does too. There's a line from the master cylinder that's split with a T that runs to the LSPV, another line from the LSPV that runs to the ABS pressure controller, and the outflow line from the LSPV to the rear wheel cylinders. The Summit valve sitting on my workbench has an in and out fitting, so no way to run the bypassed fluid back to the ABS controller and the master cylinder.

Incidently, I bought SAE flare fittings that I'll cut into the lines so I won't cross thread the Summit valve.

No ABS on his rig, and though i can't see any reason why it would be different, I take no responsibility.

This is going by memory since we did this several years ago.

We took the line off the input side of the LSPV, and connected that right to the flex line going to the axle. Up front, we put an adjustable proportioning valve in-line.

On the LSPV, there was a line from it that looked like a 'return line', we disconnected that line up front and capped it.

Basically, we un-did 1 month of Toyota engineering in an afternoon.. basically forcing any fluid pushed to the rear to GO to the rear.
