The SPOT is real cool! Is this the download at the end of the trip?SPOT tracked us perfectly without a hitch.
We also checked in every day once we reached camp. Worked great.

Yeah. I can zoom in and out using google. It's great. That little black pond is the Salton Sea for reference.
Are you talking about your tent? I am really interested in one of those, in there enough room for a family of four in there or just a two man? I am between a little pop trailer up or the tent.

Yeah. You can sleep 2 in it.. and maybe a small child. There are other models that will fit a whole family available. http://www.car-top-tent.com/

The SPOT has a mode called (go figure) "SPOTcasting" that automatically sends a "message" (waypoint) to your account every 10 minutes. When you login to your account you can select and view any of your "messages" (it uses GoogleMaps to display the messages). You can zoom in/out just like GoogleMaps.
Or you can manually "SPOTcheck" (sending a message to your account and anyone else you choose via e-mail or text message) whenever you feel like it.
But you can't do both at the same time. SPOTcasting has to be off for SPOTcheck to function.

Exactly what Boyd said. I just let it track us sending positions every 10 mins all day. Then when we arrived at camp i shut it off/turned it on and reported a 'check-in'. At night i just left it off and saved battery power. Worked flawlessly.
