I'm happy with my FJ but the wind noise from the roof rack is kind of annoying. Here in Vegas, the FJ's are selling like hot cakes. Can't wait for the extra's to come out. I want to lift it about 3" with 34" tires, probably 18". Does anyone know if there is a FJ club in Vegas? Looking forward to all the help. New to offroading.

Hi Vegasgolds
I am wondering if the wind noise from the roof rack might be caused by loose crossmembers. I experienced an occasional rumbling and finally traced it to the roof rack. The repair is to simply slide a thin rubber into the gap between the crossmember and the socket. There are screws on the underside, but tightening them does little.

There is most definitely a club with FJs in Vegas. One of the oldest chapters of the TLCA. Check us out at www.snlc.org

We would love to see you take your new FJ in the dirt. We are planning an easy overnight run through the Mojave Preserve area south of town next month.

On the roof rack, I know on a few vehicles we have owned, They suggest having the cross bars to the rear untill they are needed.

Roof rack issues

I've got the same noise(s). Part of it is a rattle. Tightening things to the max helps some. A thin rubber gasket will help. The rest is wind noise. I'm hoping repositioning the crossbars will help. If not, off they come until needed.

I talked to the guys at TLC4X4 and they said that they cured the rack noise by installing the air dam. I think Toyota will have the air dams available in June.

I really don't notice the noise from the roof rack. then again I ussually listen to the engine sing or the radio. So I couldn't tell ya

thanks for the air dam reply, thats what i thought too. guess i have to wait for it's arrival. I wonder when I have it installed will it effect my NXT headliner speakers?
