Printed my first ABS part. Then tried acetone smoothing. It came out pretty good. I will prime this and then do some sanding. Depending on the results of that, I’ll shoot it in JT Outfitters pewter. The pic with all the bezels shows PLA (flat black) ABS post smoothing (gloss black), OEM part, and my very first PLA print painted silver.

What CAD system are you using and what printer do you have?

Fusion 360 (free version) and QIDI X-plus. I don’t have a scanner just use calipers and best guess. Print, test fit and compare to the original then refine.

While I had the ABS on the printer, I made some covers for my euro mirrors, the factory ones were broken and couldn’t find replacements.

Got a little bit done today. I made a nut plate and then drilled holes and welded it from the front. I wasn’t going to have enough room to weld the nuts from the back and also the lower one landed where the side defrost vent hole was. I’ve done a couple rounds of primer and sanding on the bezel as well. Next up some pewter.

I also printed the housing in silver. I bought this nibbler tool for cutting the hole in the dash. I love this thing. It was like $40 and goes through sheet metal like butter without the dust and noise of the grinder. You just use your drill to drive it. Up to 14 gauge.

Slowly plodding along.

Front and interior wiring harnesses redone
Vacuum canister fitted
Driver side firewall cleaned up
New cityracer brake booster
Sniper mounted
DUI dizzy added
Switched out toyota ps pump for saginaw (i prefer them and lines up with the inside pulley so it’s no longer on the same belt as the alt)

Working on putting new gas tank in and running lines currently.

working on fuel lines. No pics but cut off the ends of the inlet/outlet and put tube compression fittings to AN fittings on them. I may ditch the bracket on the fender and just use separator clamps on that section to leave it more flexible. Also hit the easy button on the gas tank skid and took it to the powder coater 🤩

Had my soft top bows powder coated.

Unfortunately they lost my corner brackets (claimed I didn’t leave them with them and I didn’t have anything to prove otherwise). Fortunately Heritage Cruisers @cwags12 has them so those are on the way. Also picked up the tool bag hook from them, so glad they are reproducing this part!

Nothing too exciting just chipping away at my punch list.

Gas tank and skid plate installed with new felt. All new hoses. Painted the vapor separater box. Hooked up the throttle to the sniper and finished up some wiring on the driver side. Still need to install the o2 sensor and plumb vacuum lines to the sniper.

Fun thread to follow and great work.
Pretty to cool to watch you grow into such a craftsman.

I’ve got a number of similar issues to tackle rust wise and your thread has taught me a few things, primarily, stay out of the rabbit hole if I want to keep this thing in one piece 😏. I’m trying to stick with the goal that it can’t be off the road for more than a week, at least until a later date when I go whole hog and move in with the rabbits for a few years.

Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah definitely beware of the rabbit hole!
