BLM Comment Period

Closes June 24. I looked back to see if there was a thread on this important topic but did not find one (probably imbedded in another thread). I know it has been discussed in club meetings but have we formulated a statement to BLM from the club? We need to do this both as a club and individuals. I have not attended a BLM public meeting nor do I know the local trails well enough to make a specific statement. So please, let's get something going here before the deadline passes.

Jonathan just sent an email about an important meeting coming up on Tuesday. Grand Mesa Jeep Club is hosting a pizza party at the fairgrounds about 5-9 to work on formulating comments so we can respond intelligently to BLMs RMP plans. I did not realize how much we stand to loose if the BLM goes forward with their plan. Well, it is 60% of all existing roads/trails in the valley they wish to close. That's over half and when you add the previous closures it simply is unacceptable.

Please be there and let's see what we can come up with as concerned individuals and one voice from BCC.

Jonathan and I were the only two BCC members there. I hope that means everyone else has already submitted written comments as the deadline is Monday.

How soon are they expected to deliberate?

The final proposed RMP/EIS will be available next spring. Then there is a very short period for public protests. Only those who files comments can protest IIRC and there are special limitations. This is where the legal groups really get involved to determine if the RMP is consistent with the law. The Final RMP decision will be issues in the fall of 2014.
