I just finished watching a video we made of a trip up Blanca Peak in 1995 - Cruiser Rob made it up in his less than stock height 1960 FJ-25! Less than stock height because those 35 year old springs had some serious negative arch! Some fellow rolled an FJ-40 off Jaws II the day before our run.

Is the trail up Blanca still open?

Yes I belive it is . We are going to the dunes in late may I will check it out

Cool. Let me know...I can put it on my wish list :)

It is still open, they modified "Jaws II" because of all the people that roll off of it. The biggest problem with Jaws II was people not deflating enough and trying to use TOO much throttle.

Right now, I assume there is too much snow up there for a safe run. It was dry in Dec., a local group ran the whole run. But we finally got snows up there recently.

Jaws II was kinda scary in '95 when I saw it. Like you said, too much throttle, a little bounce to the left and bye bye.

Originally the 4x group here in Alamosa was pushing for a warning sign and a man made winch anchor above Jaws II. But I think that obstacle was actually blasted out.

I think about 6yrs ago or more there was a couple of guys that died up there in their heep. They came up to II and the first truck made it. But the second truck couldnt. A really young local kid was below them and he walked up and gave them advice "drop you tire pressure more, crawl over it." They told him they could do it on their own and didnt need advice. So they just kept thrashing and banging and trying to throttle it over. The heep took a bounce off the rock went over edge, hit the road below and went over the second edge and hit a tree. Really bad wreck, I cant remember if both in the heep were killed or just one, but it was their famalies that pushed for the rock to be blasted out of there. Even though it wasnt the rocks fault.
