So I finally managed to get another look at the BJ75 I found/posted awhile ago - exmine truck. Turns out its from Cassiar asbestos. The frame rails are 50% packed with the stuff, and bascially the whole truck has a light coating of asbestos inside and out. It is an 88 with the 3bII, has already been titled, hour meter says 9300 hrs, and odomter says 81,031 miles or kms....i forgot too look :frown: and seller says odometer worked when he parked it. How the heck do I get rid of the asbestos? Pressur wash it but then its on the ground...put down a tarp maybe first but then what?

Seller says it was running rough. He says blowing lots of black smoke. Injector pump problem? I also notice it has a very small alternator - coulnt tell if Toyota part even, no vaccum pump on the back like Im used to.

Its been bonded and spray bombed to hide some stuff for sure, comes with another set of doors with the Cassiar mine logo on them - they actually dont look too bad!! The rear springs are flat, fronts look OK. No hubs. The door hinges are shot, the windshield frame looks OK, hood is really good. Body mounts underneath have minor surface rust. Frame has had some bigg assed protector bars welded to it (now cutt off and look like heck). Box on back is crazy heavy, rusty underneath. What do you all think of the odometer and hour meter - near the end of its life or hopefully with regular service, just used hard and put away dry. Thanks for your feedback. Pics posted when I get it home.

pics will help. sounds dead to me though.
also, asbestos is no fun and nothing to joke with. It would be useful to inquire as to what form of asbestos was mined with the truck. somehow I doubt that the coating consists of the supertiny asbestos fibers that cause lung cancer, since no one could safely work with that in such quantities.

I Would check with an asbestos abaitment specialist because there are a lot of laws governing the removal and public exposure to it.

That stuff is very leathal, not today or tomorrow, but once it's in your lungs there is ABSOLUTELY NO way to get rid of it. It is VERY carcinogenic.

You could may be making yourself liable if you just buy the truck and "wash" it out.

These things run around in four low their whole lives. 9300 hours on a street vehicle would amount to a little over 500,000km. That thing is "rode hard and put away wet" It would have to be pretty cheap.

I don't know what to say about the asbestos. Its going to be a real pain to clean out but I wouldn't use it or work on it until it was clean.

Good luck

Thanks guys, good feedback. It's a heck of a way to get a L/C pickup.

It reminds me of the pics taken by this Russian chick who rode a motorcycle through Chernobyl. Trucks and helicopters were abandoned because they were too radioactive for use:

If I had a choice of lung cancer or drive a Dodge Dakota, I'd drive the Dodge.
