Hi. My 89 Bj74 with the 13b-t has 170,000km on it and runs great and uses no oil. However, whenever I let it idle for any length of time it smokes blue like a chimney for about 20 seconds after I drive away. The longer it idles, the more it smokes. Whats this all about??
Air filter is new, fuel filter is new, running 5w40 synthetic right now but it did the same on 15w-40 rotella dino oil.
Any thoughts?

Also... the automatic tranny fluid looks and smells a little burnt and i want to change it. Where can I get a pan gasket and filter for it?? Anything I need to know about changing the fluid in these trannies? any good additives recommended?

have your injectors ever been serviced?
you might be overfueling a little bit.

No they havn't. What does this involve? I do use howes diesel treat in every tank since its been in canada.
Is it common for them to need service already with such low mileage?
Iv'e got an old ford diesel with 500,000km on it and injectors have never been out.

blue smoke

Tells me its an oil issue, rings?? valve seals.Changing brands and from carbon based to synthetic can cause problems so I have heard?

I don't think injector nosals are expensive for a bj74. They should be looked at ever 100,000kms.
Valves should be looked at and adjusted.
Go from there, if those two don't fix it. turn down the fuel from 12 to 11 o'clock in a counter clockwise direction.

Anything else I am missing guys?

Where can I get these nozzles? or any other parts for this machine for that matter?

Ok Thanks man

I have the same blue smoke on start up and when idle for a few minutes. I have new injector nozzels and checked and adjusted valve clerance. No change in smoke. There is a little oil coming from the tubro air cross-over pipe but the engine not using oil. Could it be worn valve guides and or seals? A mechanic told me that when older tubro engins are at idle they don't pull that much air and there fore don't burn the diesel as well as at higher revs. So it could be excess fuel like ForealBoreal suggest. Try the diesel forum for answers.

13B-Ts will do that, in fact most older style diesel owners call it "fuel wash". Your motor is fine !

If you need parts RADD CRUISERS
