I swapped the 12v starter and alternator onto the 13bt. The starters and bellhousings were exactly the same on both engine so I didn’t need to swap the starter nose cones.
I also swapped the power steering fluid reservoirs. The bj 70 had it mounted on the fender and the bj60 had it mounted on the pump. The pumps alone are exactly the same.
Hose on The left is from the bj74. The tank. On the right is from the 60

13bt 24v shutoff Vsv. Located behind the injection pump. my dad found a 12v vsv im going to swap it out with that’s looks almost identical.

Nice work!

There are some differences between the red and blue block 13bt, but unless you are rebuilding it, it doesn’t make a huge difference.

8 bolt crank/flywheel blue vs 6 for red
Cam bearings are 14b size after late 88 block, not std 13bt size

Blue have a different timing cover gasket vs the red.

I believe there clutch size are different from blue to red as well but not 100% on that one.

It has been really cold in Winnipeg. My parents were going to Hawaii for two weeks so I tagged i tagged Along the first week. I did some research and did a 1 day diy goat hunt! All I needed to buy was the liscense which was 105$ USD and bring my bow!

I have been doing a lot of sanding and cleaning and finally got to paint it!
I went with Toyota 464.

I also Got a old style ARBA bumper from @RockDoc
It’s Bit bent so I’m going to try to see if I can fix it.

Does anyone know if the flat/ top part of the bumper is supposed to be level? Or is it supposed to be tilted forward abit?

Dude! This looks totally awesome!

It’s amazing to me what you have done with this truck. When it is done it will be so cool!

Hey mate I reckon its supposed to be tilted forward a bit.

I thought the same thing that mine was bent and I was going to try and straighten it. But I took it off the other day to install the winch and it looks like it's supposed to be like that, there was no real evidence of it being bent.

It seems pretty coincidental we both have them tilting forward a bit!

Your doing an incredible job, keep up the good work!

I remember the bumper being a pretty tight fit over the frame rails of my 62, and the flats on the bumper being pretty much flat / horizontal. I used to stand behind the barwork to get good access to the engine bay, hence to rubberized coating.
But... looking at this old pic, I guess it does slope a bit forward.

The left side wing is bent on this one, courtesy of a Calgary utility pole. ;)

It’s alive! The 13bt runs. I just used a container of diesel in the engine bay because I haven’t made a fuel return line yet.

I managed to get some f250 shock towers for 51$ on Amazon.ca! It was a warehouse deal.

What?????

Did you swap electrics harnesses?

What?????

Did you swap electrics harnesses?
Nope! I used the 12v starter and alternator from the 3b. I also found a 12v VSV to use for engine shutoff. Whereas the 3b uses EDIC.
I haven’t looked into it yet, but I’m Going go see if I can use the edic plug from the vsv.
Are you using the whole bj60 harness?

Yes.

I have a FJ62 though. It has many power options…. So I have to combine the 2 together so I can still have all of my power features, but the BJ harness has to stay intact, and the FJ harness has to also stay INTACT the the ignition switch… it’s complicated.

People don’t realize, with a FJ60, you just swap the harnesses no problem easy… Fj62 you can’t.

I’m figuring it out.

Good to see you are making lots of progress on the 13BT

I never liked how high thee SOA was. After doing so reading decided to do what @cruisermatt did with his DIY reverse eye leaf springs. You can see what he did here

I did the same thing , but added a military wrap since wasn’t comfortable re arching the leaf AND deleting the mil wrap.

Re-arching. I moved it along the spring in increments the same size as the square tubing. On the second pass I offset the tubing to even out pressure points.

2nd pass through the press

For the The front springs, I spray painted the arch onto cardboard to match it when re arching
I forgot to draw out the arch on the rear springs , so I just eyeballed it and it turned out great!

To make the leaf pack, I cut off the military wrap to make a full length leaf.
Then I took a extra military wrap form Another leaf pack,
I flipped it, Re-arched it, and cut it in half(ish) so it ends just past the u-bolt top late.

Rear spring

They are all finished and installed!
Only problem so far is the anti inversion shackles in the front are hitting the spring. So I will. Have to swap out for regular shackles and I’ll try to make a bump stop so the spring doesn’t invert.

If the springs do break, ill get some reverse eye main leafs made. it just isnt in the budget right now.
local places want 200$ per leaf, and they dont even have the material to make them right now!

Looks good.
Did you get pricing from Alcan? IIRC they were $120 per leaf. But that was 2 years ago.

I don’t really see the point in the mil-wrap. If the spring completely breaks at a shackle or fixed hanger it will still be secured in five other spots, the other three frame mounting points and the U-bolts on the axle. Most likely it will be a slow offroad situation as well.

Most leaf springs don’t even have them any more.

I did call alcan, their pricing was around 120 but shipping to Canada was expensive. That price was for a local place.

I was looking at Chevy 63 springs and didn’t realize they didn’t Come with mil wraps. You are right, I probably would of been fine without them. But I’m still happy they are there now

Measured shock length! It flexes alot more when lifting thee back tire vs lifting front tire. I’m guessing bc something to do with weight distribution or spring rate? Rear tire was approximately 25 inches off the ground here.
It still had more flex in it. The tires weren’t lifting off the ground yet in the pic. We just didn’t want risk rolling lol. but it flexes goodd either way!
I also swapped out the front anti inversion shackles in the front, but now the rear anti inversion shacklees are hitting thee reverse eye springs and may or may not be limiting axle up travel.

I’m looking for a set or door lock including including the rear hatch btw! I have no lockes right now. I messaged Matt at vintage teq parts, but he said I need a working rear hatch lock because you can’t re key Orr rebuild them.
