Hi there all

I have a question for the forum users within Australia.

Has anyone seen any BJ73 MWB with soft tops in Australia - or know of any.

Many thanks

Wayne

Not officially imported here as far as I know and none of my brochures show one in the line up.
Im guessing it wouldnt work with the roll bar in the way .

Plenty of cheap FJ75 out there if you want to make one;)

Available in other markets but not listed for Oz. The top is not stunningly costly, it is up there though, the "bones" and the soft tops doors will be a pretty penny.

Wayne,

I've seen a few 70s in Sydney running soft tops but never a 73. Might be worth talking to the guys on Outerlimits4x4 or speak to Michelles Sacks or similar.

You may even be able to find someone who makes swags to knock one up for you, maybe using unzippable windows???

Are the 70 running around with softtops JDM models, as far as I knew they did not offer the raptop 70 in OZ?

Michael,

I've seen at least 5 different 70 series running around with different style soft tops.

The style varies according to colour, window position and actual shape (one in Bondi is running a soft top from the over driver's head roll bar down to 1/2 door level.

I would therefore guess that they are not original items (BTW what does JDM stand for?).

I'll see if I can ask an owner next time I pass one.

Hi there

Hi there all

Many thanks for your responses.

Well this time of the year there is now way I want a soft top - too :censor: cold.

I have modified some front doors and a rear tail gate for the summer periods - I havent used them all that often but it looks very smart indeed (will post pictures later)

I did see a soft top advertised on e-bay about 12 months ago but conldnt confirm wether it was a factory option of home made (but looked great)

Again many thanks

Wayne

Yep that I believe and have seen, I think some are home done jobs and others might be JDM's.

Cheers,

This one is a factory softtop truck, but I doubt the softop is. I guess I am lucky I have the original softtop and it is in great shape :)

Wayne,

I saw the same version as the pic just above in Waverley today (was black on a metallic navy 70, V nice!)

The other beach shot (wedge shaped roof) is also running aroun on a white 70 in Bondi (is also white but looks like it was set on fire then put out with a shovel unfortunately:confused: )

Just to quickly hi-jack this thread, am I right in thinking that the Aussie 73/74s all came with internal roll bars whereas the o/seas (US and Canada) are without?????

I have a question regarding integrating the roll bar with a storage system...........

Just another inet 'FOR SALE"photo. Its fom NSW on the other side;)

I dont know why but a lot of motor trimmers here cut the corner off the rear of the soft top roof ,especially on the 40 series.Probably a lack of roof hoops and rear seat make it unnecessary.

Yeah Australia and Europe got the roll bar and rear seat belts to comply with local standards.
If you imported a JDM (japanese domestic market) MWB you either had to fit the rollbar and extra seat belts or lic it as a 2 seater.

Funny enough my 73 series is lic as 5 seater "ute"

Not sure what dent you are talking about, is it the one I got on the drivers side with it in Moab 2005, if not them must be another 70 you are thinking about. As far as I know there are only 2 white 70 series ragtops in North America, I have one in the states and Moose has one in BC.

Cheers,

Michael
