Big T's 77 FJ40 resto thread

I was initially going to get a all new license plate braket for the back plate until I saw how much they cost. So after a few hours of hammering and sanding I finished a good resto on the braket. I will have to get the bulb covers nice and shiny still but I think they will turn out ok.

Dallas thanks for the assistance on those measurements and getting them so fast. Also thanks for letting me help out and crashing with you guys this weekend.....ALWAYS a blast!


However I have one more favor to ask from you or if somebody else has the measurements for the spare tire holder itself. The pictures that you have show where it goes just not the exact measurments???? any help would be appreciated. Thanks
 
Ok I was able to get measurments on the tire rack itself.(THANK YOU RUDI) Last little bit of drilling then we are off for some touch up primer then on to final color and clear!!!!

Hey no problem on the measurements.....You have been busy with your cruiser......I will get some color photos tonight maybe. :bounce:
 
Ok I was able to run out and get some pictures of some of the little items that have been painted. So here is a little taste of some OLIVE.....Got to love the color!!!!!!

Hopefully I will come in tomorrow with some pictures of the rest of the rig in color to.
 
Finally got some pictures of the rest of the FJ in color. It looks really good. There will be some touch ups that need to be done and all the parts need to be wet sanded as well just to get the little blemmishes out. The fenders are really the only thing that I have left that needs color. Other then that she is ready to go back together.

Got it sitting on the frame now.....Its getting so close it hurts. I can finally see that light at the end of the tunnel with this build.

I will have to do a bunch of re-wiring from the PO's work. I think he hacked a lot of stuff on it. But here are some pics for now.

LOL that is so true....not only that but I think that 12v systems are alot easier then 24v. And I will again have the help from everybody here on MUD.
 
The few things that I need to tackle this week are:

#1- Feed all electrical back through the fire wall

#2- Connect all electrical connections (callibrate any issues)

#3- apply all emeblems and gaskets


That should keep me busy for the week any way.
 
LOL I sure hope so....im kinda dreading the wiring already... I started going through it all last night and most of it should hook back up pretty easy but there is some stuff that the PO did that is questionable. I will bring it home this weekend though and start assembly of all the fenders and start putting the buttons and nobs back on. I will keep posting pics.
 
Well I have kind of run into a big problem and I need some help and or opinions on what to do or have

done. I started stipping the paint and cylicon that the PO had put on the roof the FJ and I came accross

a bunch of "stress fractures" ( I guess is what I will call them). They are not in a straight line either.

They look like a bunch of crop circles on the roof. Hope this picture can show what they look like.

Now after talking with Clarence who is an expert when it comes to fiberglass he said there are certin

things he can do to fix them but its not a factory new roof. He said it will look fine and last for as long

as the truck itself will but its not cheap to do either. It is about $120.00 a gallon for this filler that he

puts on the inside and outside of the roof and it shoulnt take much more then that. He also said that he

would have to put another special primer on it to help when the paint is apllied. So give me thoughts on

what to do or ideas on it as well. Thanks guys.

Sorry it has been so long since I have posted on what has been going on. Just to give everbody a little update on what I have been up to my wife just gave birth to our second child. A cute little girl so that has taken alot of my free time up. But on the other hand I have had a few chances to get out and start doing a little cleaning of the motor. Pulled the side panel and replaced that gasket

My thermostat was really gumed up with old water and coolant. Not sure why that happend???.. I also wonder if that is why my heater was not working so well last winter when I was driving it?

Any way im coming along with the rest of the body work as well. just trying to find somebody that will sand blast the frame for me. Not to many companys that will do it here in the Springs. I will keep everybody posted on what happens next. Thanks for the help and patience on the build.

I believe your numbering on the cylinders are back asswards. # 1 is closest to radiator and then 2,3,4,5,6 :cheers:
