Some feed back on the Pilgrim tub:

I ended up using one of Paul's Half-Tubs. I think it was one of the last few that CCOT had left? Any way, it was pricey, but the quality is great!!! It did need a few tweaks to make it PERFECT, but nothing that a good body guy can't handle.

If you are going for as close to stock as possible these are a good way to go.

Thanks for that update. I think im leaning towards the aqualo tubb anyway. I need the durabilty of the aluminum. Just our of curiosity what were the "tweaks" that you had to make on the tub to make it fit?

Well finally after many days of researching and asking many people (mainly bugging the heck out of my brother) on wich tub to go with I finally decided to go with the Aqualu tub. It is pretty sweet and they were awsome to deal with. So after a week and a half of waiting look what showed up!!!:)

So with a little help from dad's fork lift I was able to get it up into my garage. Now I just have to sand blast the frame and move on to getting the tub ready for paint. One step closer.

Well I was FINALLY able to finish the insulation and dry wall in the garage so back to work on the FJ. Some before and after pictures though.

After

I started pulling a part the top of the crusier.....what is the best way to pull out the striped out rusted screws that holed the rails in?....I just dont want to have to go back and drill them out and then tap and dye the new ones in. Thanks for the help.

I was able to get the top side panels off with a LOT of help from some PB blaster and a big hammer.

2011-04-15_15-56-34_668.jpg

That was a much bigger pain then what I thought.

Looks like I need to do some bending and remove some rust form the rain gutter on the top and some on the sides.....I need some help on removing the side and corner windows? Any tips or techniques are welcome.

Thanks again for the help and being patient with the build.

I used soapy water and bike tire levers (plastic, set of 3, sold at any bike shop for $6). The tire levers are indispensable for removing fixed 'cruiser windows. Always be careful not to scarf up the rubber and use plenty of soapy water. Once you get one window out (start with the larger side glass), it'll seem like a snap.

Hello again everbody,

Sorry it has been so long since I have posted on what has been going on. Just to give everbody a little update on what I have been up to my wife just gave birth to our second child. A cute little girl so that has taken alot of my free time up. But on the other hand I have had a few chances to get out and start doing a little cleaning of the motor. Pulled the side panel and replaced that gasket

My thermostat was really gumed up with old water and coolant. Not sure why that happend???.. I also wonder if that is why my heater was not working so well last winter when I was driving it?

Any way im coming along with the rest of the body work as well. just trying to find somebody that will sand blast the frame for me. Not to many companys that will do it here in the Springs. I will keep everybody posted on what happens next. Thanks for the help and patience on the build.

congrats on the new little girl and that garage looks great. I am also getting ready to do my resto but my garage is a one car garage that I have to put smaller tires on just to get into. lol Me and my wife had a little boy here recently and they do take up alot of your extra time, it just makes for late night working. Keep it up and keep us up to date

Hello everybody....Again time has gotten from me. I have been

super busy at work and also trying to finish diffrent things on the

crusier. Anyway just for a quick update, also pictures will soon

follow, I was able to get my windows out thanks to your help

along with a few phone calls to my brother in SLC. No damage

was done. Did discover some new rust under the window seals

but nothin that cant be fixed. I also was able to get the engine,

transmission and transfer case pulled and the fram with

axles shiped over to the sandblasters. That should be finished by

the end of the week. The frame will then be taken back to the

house to be painted in a heavy anti rust protectent. Like I said I

will have

pictures showing what has been done shortly but until then I will

try and keep you all up to date. Talk to you soon again!!!

Thomas

Hey guys,

some quick pics of the sandblast job. It looks great and paint will

start at the end of this week with on the frame. I will send pics

when I get them as well.

Just finished welding in covers over the taillights so that no dirt or water can get in and rust them out any more. I will also wire in pigtails for the connections so that they are easy to remove and replace.

Well I finally got all of the supplies for the paint. Both the frame
and the body. I am going to keep it all original so here is a
picture of the original Toyota Olive Green. I think its going to
look super sharp. Just a little more sand blasting on some smaller
pieces. As far as the rust and body work goes just need
to connect the front clip on to the tub. That is the last bit of
tough body work. I am putting new gaskets on the motor,
transfercase and transmission while they are out. Figured might
as well do it now.

I would make sure you have some drain holes in those light things or they will rust out. why didnt you just put the original covers over them?

I would spray some lithium aerosol grease into those cavities, after painting the exterior. There is no such thing as a 'sealed cavity' on a Land Cruiser - and when water gets in there, evil things will happen.

After finishing all the welds and grinding them smooth I went back over the seems/welds with a two part seem sealer made by 3M. My dads body guy Clarence swears by the stuff and says that it is impenetrable once it drys wich takes about 10 minutes. I didnt use the factory covers for exactly that reason.....the rust does far to much damage not only to the cover but to the taillight and the bumper itself. My welds will out last and out seal those cheap covers all day long. Now that I have it seald both with the weld and the seem sealer there is NO way water or dirt will get in. I will post a picture of it with the sealent on there as well just so you guys can see what it looks like and how tight it actually is. Thanks for watching the build guys!!!
