Big Cedar

In my on going effort to escape the world's dismal state, I went to check out the worlds largest Western Red Cedar with @cruiserpilot yesterday. Next to Cheewhat lake on the way to Carmanah Park. Trail head is marked by flagging tape at Rosander Main km 19. It's about 1hr hike each way. Beautiful old growth in there with tons of trees this scale. Blows away places like Avatar Grove (which I've always though was way over rated anyhow). Roads were in excellent shape - best I've ever seen on North Shore rd. Lots of active logging though, so driving defensively is a real must. Not a fan of pictures with myself in them, but it was the only way to put these trees to scale.

Just something about big trees!! Was in the inland temperate rain forest between PG and McBride a few days ago. Not as big as the coastal variety but still big majestic cedar. The other pic is looking north over the Fraser river about an hour into our trip up the mountain.

Just something about big trees!! Was in the inland temperate rain forest between PG and McBride a few days ago. Not as big as the coastal variety but still big majestic cedar. The other pic is looking north over the Fraser river about an hour into our trip up the mountain.

Cool pics. I miss ripping back and forth across nitinat lake on a sailboard, but I don't miss that drive after work on a friday trying to get the last camp site.

Little trivia I just came across in the past year or so: Did you know Nitnat lake is 680ft deep? I had no idea. Thats dang deep!

I did yeah because one of my mast bases is down there...

Apparently once in Africa, a deep lake like that did some sort of inversion, and gas from the bottom came to to top and wiped out a whole valley. H2s maybe?

Or at least this was the scary story circulated at camp fires.

Haha, I bet there is a lot of stuff down there now that will remain hidden in darkness till the end of time.

I remember seeing a doc on that lake in Africa - true story.
