On Saturday I was supposed to meet my friend and few other Jeeps to do some runs around Big Bear. He ended up flaking so the GF and I ran Gold Mtn solo. About 1/4 of the way in I passed two Jeeps in one of the early obstacles. One of the guys was very nice and a huge fan of the 80. We ended up running the rest of the trail with these guys. Gold Mtn. seems to get more technical every time I run it. The abundance of sharp rocks really concerned me this time. I actually ended up chunking the tires severely by the end of the run. Enough of my whining, here a few pics.

On Saturday afternoon my friend Oliver (JiggaWu) picked up Biffs '94 80. Being the good sport that he is, he picked me up on Sunday morning to run Holcomb Creek. He bought the rig sans the sliders, bumpers, etc. that were on it. Accordingly, the rock garden scared him into turning around for fear of body damage. It didn't help that a throttle happy man converted a pristine early Bronco into a well worn trail beater right in front of us in the garden. Maybe Wu will post some pics here or on another thread.

I sat at the rock garden watching the San Diego 4 Wheelers take two hours to get nine rigs through that, watched them run a unprotected Grand Cherokee through it, any rock and they all stopped and looked at the underside for five minutes. Was pretty frsutraited with their trail blocking skills, we waited two hours to get through, Saw Yotamasters and Calmini guys after the garden,
the forest is way too dry for May

I had a similar experience the last time I ran the trail. Some guy was having some technical issues and they decided to set up the repair session literally inches outside the exit for the garden essentially blocking all other vehicles. I ate lunch and they were still going at it.

It is way dry up there right now. Imagine the dust/silt in a few months. I saw a really nice Calmini branded Skittle Green reg. cab yota on Holcomb Creek on Sunday. He was making all the tough lines look easy.

I ran into him and a group of other mini's at Calico. He was very nice but tried to change a flat with a high lift on the rear bumper on the downhill side of the rig on a fairly steep side hill. I finally convinced him to take my winch line from the bluff above and raise/support the truck with it attached to the rear corner of the cage to stabilize it and keep it from falling off the hi-lift, again. Definitely a well set up rig.

Here is the rig with its new Owner getting some ""new owner break-in" time at Holcomb Creek. Will be ordering sliders soon to tackle the real stuff. Thanks to Redcheetah for showing me the way.

here are some more pics.

The used to be pristine Bronco near the end (top) of the rock garden getting a helping hand and some advice. That Bronco had a mean engine in it, but too happy of a throttle.

bottom pic is my rig sans bumper, got that in the trunk.

FYI, this is what happened on a simple trail run without sliders, it convinces many to buy them early, first trip with lift:mad::crybaby::mad::crybaby:

oh damn - that is a sobering pic. I only got real close to denting my DS door before I was on a frantic hunt for sliders. There was enough pucker factor for me in that single incident that I parted with that money without any guilt.

And this guy says I was scared, geeeez. My decision was one of good reason. Don't need to rush into things when my 80 gots a long life ahead of itself for wheeling.

Victor sold his 80?? Does he have another one or is he out?

he is looking for a 40 I believe.btw...did you get those toyo MTs in the LA area? if so, where? and how much (if u don't mind me asking)? your new suspension is pimp!smit

Thanks smittycrusher!
I got them at Discount/America's Tire in Glendora. They are a good tire shop- the Toyos were actually a few $ cheaper than GY MTR's. I think around $210/per tire
