I am at the airport waiting for my bus, sorry can't post pics. This was a seriously cool event. Here is the initial low down:

1. The ride to the trails has incredible scenery.
2. The trails are off the hook rock crawlin.
3. My rig got some serious body work - all sides
4. The campground was decent.
5. The BHCC gang was first rate and put alot of effort into the event.
6. The event is not big and everybody is low key and friendly.
7. Some trails are a 10-40 minute ride on the road (55mph), so rigs that can not be drivin on the road are a drag (trailered).
8. It is freakin hot hot hot here.
9. If you do the hard trails your rig has to be tight or you will break right away.

Things I learned:

1. I can not stay up all night and party like the old days.
2. My rig is too heavy. Light with minimal tools and parts is the way to go.

My carnage:

1. (2) steel wheels probably dented beyond repair.
2. Sheet metal dents every side. (this is pretty much a gaurantee on the harder trails)

My drivetrain was solid - Toyota's Rule

Can't wait for the pics Karl.

Kirk is trying to convince me to come up to BHCC next year for this event.

I think this is something I am going to do....

How would a 80 series that's been rolled already do there?

:grinpimp:

Cheers.

On the hard trails, for an 80, you will need 38 tires (36 if you are badass driver), take all of your glass out, and rockers set up high. The 80 were having problems with control arm mounts on the mid-level trails.

The main issue is just fitting through obstacles. Some obstacles have basically rock walls on each side. I would hate to see an 80 wedged in there, it was a bitch just to get a stripped down mini-truck out of there.

The place rocks but is freakin hot, I have to think about that for next year, especially if I bring my son.

I am having problems with my camera memory card. The heat probably melted it:rolleyes:

Just want to give a HUGE shout out to the FJ Cruiser Central Trail Team of Chris, Rod, Robbie and Conner for their excellent work at the Black Hills Cruiser Classic. First, the FJ swag and the BBQ was great as always.

Secondly, and this is the important part, there was a younger couple (early 20's) that showed up on Saturday morning that weren't 1) Signed up for the event and 2) had never wheeled before. Now let me tell you, between Chris and Rod, they convinced this couple to go out and wheel a 4 rated trail in a stock FJ with NO rock rails or a skid plate. They were a bit hesitant, but decided to go.
We got to the trail head for Prospectors Gulch and everyone started airing down, immediately Chris was over with the couple, explaining why to air down etc, and showing them a few of the features of their rig. About 10 minutes later, we were heading up the trail. We got to the first set of obstacles, and Chris asked them to wait for him to clear the obstacles and pull up, then he got out and guided them up the obstacle. Along the way, their A-TRAC kicked in and Chris stopped them and explained what that was and how it works. They cleared the obstacle with not a scratch. This continued on throughout the trail, until we got to the final obstacle of the trail (the really 4 part), at which time, they pulled over and watched the other 3 FJC's run up and down the obstacle name the Gauntlet. Back down the trail to the trail head we went. Rod assisted in spotting them only briefly on the way down, as they got the hang of it pretty quickly. When we got down to the bottom, they stepped out of their FJC with nothing but grins on their faces.

Another FJC owner now understands the capabilities of their rig, thanks to the FJ Cruiser Trail Teams!

Keep up the great work guys, and as you all say....see you next time on the trails!
