I have a dent above the drivers side passenger door. It is pushing in the headliner (which is still in great shape). any recommendations on getting the dent out without damaging the headliner?

Also, I want to do this in my shop, and i was curious about the lowest priced kit or home made mechanism.

I was thinking about drilling a hole in the middle of the dent, threading it, and putting a bolt through it. then with a piece of strong metal that is flush with the car, putting the bolt through a hole in it and slowly pulling the bolt towards the flat metal.
Does that sound like a good idea, or am I just shooting in the dark?

any advice would be very helpful! thank you

I would pull down the headliner in that area because even if you pulled the dent out from the outside you will want to weld up the hole and that will be tough without damaging the liner.

I'm guessing this is a 62 and I haven't a clue as to how the liner comes out but if it was down could you pop the dent out without drilling holes in it?
dent puller would work from the outside but needs a hole or a welded stud to work.

Here's a cheap slide hammer puller Slide Hammer/Dent Puller: Autobody Store

I've even seen guys stick nails (with the head down) onto the dent with hot glue and then ripping it off. Popping out the dent without anny paint damage. Might be worth a try.
