Best shocks for an 80 after a Dino eats your roof

I have to say I never looked at the factory requirements for the roof rack but when I look at front runners stuff now I shake my head and wonder if they are marketing to people like myself who maybe value carrying capacity over physics :/

Also in case anyone was wondering the experience of driving an 80 with no roof whatsoever is incredible. I lost so much and somehow driving a roofless beast makes it ok.

I'd guess that for as light as your rig now is you could get away with some lighter shocks like Bilsteins.

Will the bilateina work for essentially a 4" lift ? Thanks for feedback right now it weighs about as much as a stock truck

I feel like Waylon Jennings would have gotten a kick out of this. Very good savioring. Not sure I would have kept the girl.

Great song. She gave me a mint condition 1997 lx450 but yeah, who knows how long it will last.

I have to say I appreciate the comments it was one of the most tragic things and look inside I had dual battery controllers seat heaters ect but it's really fun like this. I got an hdj81 now as well as this one so I kinda just use this one to drive the dogs around I would have to trailer it to wheel somewhere. Are there any cheaper options than the fox shocks and maybe things changed but I thought fox was only for 2" lift? Is it possible to make a cage that goes inside the vehicle or that's probably a lot more work/loss if interior space. Then if I cage it do I need to put in different seat belts.

Fox and OME are the cheapest shock options for 2 or 4 inch lift. OME being designed for heavy rigs will not work well on yours.

Fox IFP has 4 inch option that's basically same price as the 2 inch, really the only option you have.

so I was in Washington in October and the u thinkable happened. I was mtn. Biking and my girlfriend drove the cruiser off a cliff and totaled it. Well I had dropped way too much money on it so I just cut the roof off with a sawzall and it still drives fine however....I had slee 4" springs and shocks it was beating me up hard so I switched to 2.5" springs with spacers and I have ome 4" springs. Anyone know where I can get shocks for a 4" lift that will be valved for a truck that weighs almost stock weight. Thanks so much and if u were wondering yes I like my cruiser now more than ever with no roof. Also if anyone was wondering-u may be able to drive your truck really too heavy but someone else may not. I had at least 400 lbs on the roof have had up towards 900 lbs before (2 tepees and gear for 5 people for a week. it is definately amazing what the trucks can handle but when it comes to safety it's not too safe to have over 200 lbs on the roof

Try a set of universal ones with the stiffest valving they make.

Bilstein B8 5125 Series Shocks 33-230429

These ones are pretty spot on for length compared to most rear lift shocks for our trucks (17-28" vs ~16.5-27.5" for Fox, OME, icon, etc). I found them to be pretty light for my rig, so I would guess that a rig like yours would work for them.

Probably the best post rollover outcome I've seen; I like how you just rolled with it and now have a convertible. If it were me I'd add a roll bar at minimum and probably some kind of cage.

At least your top heavy days are over!

I have struggled with the word "convertible" as I have used it many times to describe FOO. The issue with that word is that to "convert" it back, may take quite a bit of effort. I finally have called it a 80t T=topless.

I know that deotschtech has a product line referred to as "pre-runner" series of shocks that have some softer valving and are direct fit as well as cheap. You can find them in different lengths. Bought some when I got my 7" tjm and replaced them because they were way too soft for the spring rate and weight I was carrying.

That sounds good how used are they and they work with 4" lift correct?
