Well, someone asked AJ if he could do a version of square sliders, so I was his guinea pig for measurements....

Here are some pics, I think the square sliders look substantially better then the round ones. The square seems to match the 'boxy' overall look of the FJ better, IMO. They also feel stronger...and are a very nice step to have; since they sit flat.

In the last few pics, I demonstrated WHY most sliders stick "out" as far as they do. Lets see some stock rock rails smash into a concrete filled 48" tall bollard!

Too bad for me, we only had time to do one side! I have a square slider on one side, and a round one on the other!

Before you get the other one done and pay for these sliders, get vertical gussets welded on. Granted the FJC doesn't weigh as much as a 60, 80, or 100 series, but I would rather have the extra strength. Last thing you want is the slider getting pushed up into your body.

i think nerf bars are overrated. got a guy at work whos "nerf" bar were pushed up into his rocker.(mainly because of the inferior mounting)
they are also to thin walled to take a good heavy hit.
see alot of heeps with nerf bars all banged up.

sliders are being built to take the hits, hold the weight of a rig and not fold up or create body damage.

are you planning on adding gussets at the frame mounts?
IMHO thats a must for any slider designed thats made for abuse.

I have the Bentup square sliders on my 2002 Tacoma. Got them in early 2003. They are the similar to these, just a little longer and weld on. They have been great for over 3 years on all kinds of trails. Saved the door area a few times.

AJ welded the verticle support gusets on for me.

Nerf bars are glorified running boards. Bad mounts and not built to hold the weight of the vehicle and protect the rockers but they only hold the weight of the person using them to step up into the truck.

Big difference.

No, rock sliderz have been around for quite a time now.
No comparison between these and nerfs.

Nerf bars are glorified exhaust tubing, not much thicker.
You can not take a nerf bar on a trail and run it over a rock or log without it bending in half.

Rock sliderz are made to deflect rocks and logs, slide over obstacles without bending and smacking up into the frame or body of the rig they are mounted on.

Nerf bars are for looks and used as a step.
Sliderz are used first as protection, secondly as a step if they protrude out far enough.

Other than messing with somthing on your roof I never really got the whole step thing. I gues if your hoping in a big old truck haveing a step is nice, but on smaller suv to me its always been easyer just to put my foot all the way in vs having and inbetween....

I think it's obvious that the Rock Slider was a result of the Nerf Bar, that is what I was saying. Nerf bars were deemed inadequate - too whimpy etc..... Someone said "hey lets make these thicker, modify them a bit" and voila! Rock Sliders. Guys were making heavy duty home made nerf bars 15 -20 years ago which were used on tough trails like rubicon and sledgehammer. The forerunners of rock sliders in other words.

Well, if you're a little vertically challenged , like me, getting in isn't really a problem. And, getting out isn't hard either, except that I kinda slide off the side of the seat. So, for me, over time the seat and cover break down, which leaves no side support and a nice hole in the material. Hope that helps you long legged friends of mine understand

now that you mention that it makes perfect sence. My jeep sits pretty high. Its got about 6" of lift and 35's and my seat is all torn open and toasted just like that. Thank goodness for seat covers....
