Bought a pair of 60 series axles from a buddy for trail spares. Anyway, as I was tearing them down I'm having trouble getting the front shafts out and noticed that theres a bad bend in the housing. Looks like the truck was in a major front end impact as one steering arm has two broken studs.

I want the 3rd member and the shafts so here are the questions:

1. I assume the birfs and outers are ok but any guess what gave one the inners?

2. Can I cut the housing where the tube heads into the diff to extract the axles?

3. Should I give up on this thing? If I can save the birfs and 3rd I got an OK deal, anything less I probably got hosed  It was a jeep guy I got um from... and the look on his face when I pulled the rear shafts out was... well priceless as he ran to get a set of calipers to measure "those huge shafts" :flipoff2:

shafts should be fine, set them on the ground and roll them to see if they are true..

And go right ahead and cut the tubes if the housing is trashed..

I can't get the shafts out... that's the reason for cutting the housing... I was gonna effectivly turn it into a big ole slide hammer.

I cut open a very bent e-lockered 80 series housing to get the diff out. Soon as I cut it the shafts pulled out like normal. No need to make like a slide hammer. :D
