Been to Deadwood?

Heather and I are looking at a trip to the Deadwood SD area. Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park, Needles, Spearfish and Deadwood are areas of interest. The history of Deadwood and the surrounding area interest both of us. I think it has something to do with the unlawfulness of the original camp and it's progress ( not to many at the time) to acceptance by the government etc.

We are just looking for any information anyone that's been there may have. Fly in to Rapid City, rent a car, hang out for 4-5 days, home. Great restaurants, places to see, places to stay. Things to avoid. We plan to go at off season regarding Sturgis.
