Anyone know of any good beaches in SC to drive onto and camp? Just wondering if there were any in the IOP/Folly Beach area?

I know you cant "camp" on Folly but I believe that you can get a permit to have a fire pit but i am sure there is a time limit on how late you can stay. They are becoming pretty stict on Folly.

You will need to hit Freeman Park in Carolina Beach or head up to the Outer Banks in NC for that. Not aware of any SC beaches that let you camp, let alone drive. We also go to an island by boat and camp around here.

OBX won't allow you to camp on the beach either, just "fish" all night. North end of Carolina Beach will allow you to camp, but you'll be there with 1000 other people on a stretch of island that's about 5 miles? Kure Beach/Fort Fisher I don't beleive will allow you to camp on the beach.

Portsmouth Island may be your best bet, but it's a private ferry ride out there ($75 each way) but it's secluded. Bring everything, including bug spray this time of the year....

Last time I was at Portsmouth Island, people were camping, but it looked pretty miserable! Nothing but sand to either blow or track into your tent, plus a bunch of yahoos on ATVs kicking up roostertails (I hereby apologize to any yahoos who may be offended;))

Why not simply go to Ocracoke, Camp at Edwards or the National Park, and take some nice rides on the beach and do a little fishing. Oh, and visit Howard's Pub. If you want, take the private ferry to Portsmouth, which will give you access to some really primitive beaches along the Cape Lookout National Seashore.

Needs to be a group trip......I'm anxiously waiting for a group beach drive/camp/trip.....SC is out for sure of the drive part though....

Then you should be happy to know that we, LCLC is having a shrimp boil/camp trip planned in Sept. at Carolina Beach.

I'd be in for that at Carolina Beach as I visit my Dad near there every few weeks! September and early October are great times there as the weather turns really nice!

I've got an Ocean Rescue reunion in either Sept. or October. Keep us posted on the weekend!

It's scheduled for Sept. 25th, but we haven't kicked off the major planning just yet. Should have details next month.
