Can anyone recommend me a not-too-expensive battery charger - something that would charge up a dead battery over the course of a few hours or overnight?

60 bucks or so at Sears. I forget the exact name, the brand is (swingline) or something like that. It's metal, i think it's the only one they sell that's not made by them.

I saw a 3-amp setting charger at Walmart the other day for about $35.
i have one i bought at pep boys that will do AGM, gel, and traditional batts. trickle or fast charge... sub 100$ if i recall (i didn't buy top of the line, but close to get the type flexibility). and the house brand started with S... worked on my big diehard 31M like a charm, as well as traditional batts. FWIW
