gearing up to do the tailgate and this just occurred to me. basically like half doors on a 40.

any reason why not other than it's slightly more work and steel than a tailgate?

It means a single adjustable spring latch will close it nicely.

Barn doors sound cool.

But since it is soo narrow you could just have one door, hinged on the side.

What I found when I cut my tail gate was you lose considerable strength in the tub. So you need to be able to very strongly hinge and latch the tailgate again to keep the sides in.

Or make a gorky frame around the outside. Which I don't want to do.

I did the standard tailgate. Only cause I want to be able to lengthen the bed if desired for long stuff..

But I did consider side hinges.

Barn doors would look cool though. And they would be nice and light.

The only downside of that is you lose the free table when you get to the campsite. Once thing I've learned is that you can never have enough flat space available when you're camping!

Semlin,

Keep us updated on your project. I want to do the same to my 101. PM me, I do have a link to pics of one guys project doing the same. It looks pretty involved. But I too want that portable kitchen swinging out.
