last week i moved a ceiling fan for the gf. i didn't take note of what blades were in what position. so when the fan was reinstalled in a new roon and tested, the fan was out of ballance- so much so that at high speed id looked like over time it would work it's self loose.( ata bare minamum it would keep the rooms occupants from getting a full nights sleep) now i suppose i could glue on some tire weights to the blind side of the blades to ballance things out, but i don't have a very good idea on how to go about it. then it occured to me, if i were to weight each blade and plug the numbers into a good programe, it could tell me the optium location for each blade. does anyone know of such a programe? the fans white and it has five blades. but if it would help, i could paint it another color

you can get tire weights that are flat and have a sticky side. Why don't you just pull the existing weights off, and use a binder clip or something that you can clamp onto the end of a blade and use the trial and error method of balancing it.

test one blade at a time

try taping a quarter on the blind side center of the blade ( talking 1 quarter for test). to find the unbalanced blade tape the quarter on one blade, when doing this turn fan on high speed testing the balance of each blade with the quarter one at a time untill the wobbles goes away. time consuming but worth it. once you find the problem glue the quarter to the blade. sorry if i confused you. :D

Home Depot sells weight kits for fans. Comes with lead sticky weights, a weighted clip to figure out which blades need what weight where, and instructions.

Also, if the blades aren't all at the same pitch, or not at the same level, they will wobble. I fix most wobbly fans by adjusting the blade angles.
