Is there a market for these. I have two set of axle with them.

Yes there is, in the boating-trade...there they are known as anchors.

Steve

He makes a good point  there really not worth anything you cant up grade to disk, they leak, chances are unless someone is doing a full resto your going to be stuck with them for awhile. I pulled mine apart and used the ball's for shifter knobs :grinpimp: took the rest to the scrap yard. Good Luck

Ha. I have a set sitting as well awaiting shifter conversion. Scrap weight or conversation piece

Sent from my phone using IH8MUD

I hope you didn't scrap the spare set of inner and outer claw axles along with the balls you got from years ago. I couls use them as spares myself. It would be cleaner and easier than pulling them out of one of the other axles I have sitting in the future scrap pile.

I might take them....PM sent.

:hhmm: a set of early axles shipped from the USA to Australia. If we can figure out shipping I will trade you two to one for full floating rear axles. If you find them with cable lockers I even go four to one.

not to stir the pot but Wilma came with Ball and claw and disk brakes.
( I still have the ball and claws and would trade for a ff fj6x rear axle with a cable locker :))
I swapped in a complete 78 front axle so I did not use the ball and claw setup but a PO had had fj40 disk brakes working on it.

there is, but it depends on how long you want to wait for someone. i got a complete axle, hub to hub for $25 because the guy was sick of trying to sell it.

glad, cause i have two rigs that run them. ;)

Dude, they are also know as improvised assault weapons.. Weld a chain on there and a handle.. Rapid fire if you can swing it quick..

PO had had fj40 disk brakes working on it.

Hmmmm....how was that done? Must have done some serious grinding...any pics or more info

I would love a 6X rear FF with cable lockers. Would go in my FJ62 so no mods needed.

It seems Mike (Foxfab) posted that some of the later 45LVs imported here had fine splines on the front diffs with ball and claw. Those front inner axles would allow early cruiser owners a few more options to limited slip and lockers. Most common locker with the coarse spline is the Lock Right and the rarer option of Torsens. I like the Torsen in the front and hate the Lock Right.

Sorry gents, I have no floaters or cable lockers. Cable lockers are pretty rare - even here.

LITP, Can you clarify this last point? My ball and craw setup has a much finer spline at the diff centre than at the drive plates. Approx 30 v 6. Do some vehicle have the coarse spline at the diff centre, too? Is that what you have on these axles, John?

post 323 on Wilmas build thread has the only pictures of the axle that I have.
it was a 64axle and the spline count on the ball and claws are like 6

The early spline count at the differential was ten spline. In general the spline count went to thirty at the differential when birfield replaced the ball and claw around the end of 1967. My early production 68 FJ40 is coarse spline and ball and claw. There were a few ball and claws that had the fine splines. Believe the ones here were in the wagons which were made at the Gifu plant. Not sure if the rear axle on those was matched with fine splines or not. These fine spline ball and claw axles are the only early style that a locker like the ARB would work without a switch to birfield or custom inner axle shafts made.

Craw.

Thanks for this. So is there a prize for having the rarest front axle of all? :bang:

I see SOR has new inners in this configuration...no new outers or balls available.
