Baja4000 - Jan'17

Hi Folks!

Did you hear about Baja4000 event (http://www.bamakoadventures.com/en/baja4000/)? it is organised by Hungarian team (in cooperation with local partners).
We decided to start, now is time to find rig that could do this trip (we will come from Europe, and there is no sense to ship car to the States)

Basically we are thinking about 120 series (GX or 4R).
Would be great to see more IH8MUD members on track.

Just one technical question as I have no experience with Baja California what kind of tire do you recommend? MT? AT? What to expect in Jan in this area?

wow, that is a huge lap.
basically outfit a rig for a baja 500 type race and carry lots of spares.
I would start searching for the threads on the race teams, and see what they use.
Are you going to race it? or just lolly gag your way thru at your own leisure?

we start in "tour" category so no "race" elements in the rally for us.
It is still quite challenging making 500km daily on rough Mexican roads. We assume it could be 12-16hours behind the steering wheel.
Adventure is adventure for team of three 40+ boys would be enough to finished it

I used to start in some amateur rally in Poland driving Impreza STI or Civic VTI and can imagine how much would cost preparing the rig and servicing it thru the 10 days of offroading.


We bought 4Runner '05 and will see what happens.
already decide to choose bfg at ko2 - hope would be better in terms of sandy and rocky tracks in Baja
