I've been prepping all week for my trip to Maine before the fall gathering. With the trailer loaded I dropped it the church around the corner from my house because there is no room near me. I went through my inspection list before I rolled out this morning. I've had a slow leak in one of the trailer tires since Moab so before I pulled out I aired it up. Since it was so quiet in the church parking lot I was able to hear the leak, a small nail hole. Thinking I was prepared I used some tire sealant called Slime. Aired back up and hit the road.
Well, I've been sitting on the side of 87 in NY, 10 miles from my starting point. The slime blew out the trailer tire!
No biggie, I've got a spare...
No I don't, the bolt pattern is wrong! All this after purchasing a spare a few years back in PA. This after sending it back and receiving what I thought was the correct one, now only to find out that was wrong too! My fault footer not checking it.
Now I'm screwed. I call Dave Crum from Crum's Custom Welding, a GCLC member and past president, he's gracious enough to run to the trailer shop near him for a spare on the correct rim.
First place doesn't have it, second one does. He drives out to meet me and they gave him the wrong rim too!
Right now Dave is taking my blown out rim and tire with my good tire to a shop to have them make the swap. Huge thanks to Dave for helping out, I have cash!
I'm not gonna arrive in NH at Gretchen's to drop the trailer till late tonight. If your in the area drop in and make sure my junk is still there!
As soon as I get road worthy again I'm finding the nearest trailer shop and having them mount 4 new tired on the trailer and I'm getting 2 new spares!!
